As I look at my current list of colleges and the idea of my major (mass communications/journalism), I see that I might have a problem.

See, my idea/goal has always been to work at a record company. Wether it be helping artists or managing..something along those lines. I also love music and have been playing both the piano and drums for 5 or 6 years. I have my own lil studio where im constantly making music.

Thing is..the amount of colleges in NJ/NY...shoot..in the U.S...that offer Music Business or Audio Production as a major, is very, very low. I only know of 3 colleges in the NY area..1 is a community college, the other one is a CUNY school and the last one is a performing arts college with a total of about 1000 students and costs about 15,000$.

My question is..do you guys think that Mass Communications would be the right path to take to get where I want to be? Do you know of any colleges in the NJ, NY, PA area that offer what Im looking for? Thanks in advance.

I think a double major in economics or business management, something along those lines could be very helpful. Just majoring in journalism/mass communications can often lead to problems later. :p

When I looked into that major many years ago, University of Miami was the only school with a defined major. Do they still have it? You could create your own excellent program at Indiana.

Wow, it looks like Im a have to go out of the area if I really want to persue this.

I checked Drexel but it doesn't grab my attention and its pretty expensive. I heard Temple and Northeastern offered something like this, and University Of New Haven too but im not sure.

Some other choices: the University of Denver has an entertainment business program, Berklee College of Music has a recording engineering degree (I think), and Belmont University in Nashville, TN has an excellent Music business program. Here's the link: http://www.belmont.edu/mb/

If this is your interest Santo, I would urge you to focus on schools that have broadcast communications majors with strong production facilities, rather than schools that are focused mainly on print journalism. Syracuse, Emerson and Boston U would be your best bets.
