Music exec

I'm a freshman Florida State University with a high gpa. I am currently majoring in accounting. However, I want to get into the music business.

My plan is to major in accounting and then apply to nyu's graduate music business school. I know there is a huge competition, and I'm worried whether I will get in or not.

In addition, there is a major called "Commercial Music" at FSU but I'm not sure if I need to play an instrument or not. Should I switch my major to commercial music? Or stay in accounting and apply to nyu's music business program?

If i stay in accounting, if i dont get into nyu, I will still be alright career/money wise.

However, if i switch to commercial music, I'm risking a lot by not going into grad school.

Damien, I am not personally in the music business but I have several friends who are. My advice to you is to stay in accounting and pursue grad studies in music business or accounting. I have a young friend who works for Sony. He has virtually no education in music, did his grad studies in accounting at UCLA and has a very interesting job traveling the world, working with various Sony .The music industry is in a serious state of flux. An accounting degree can open doors in that industry and in virtually any other industry. Also…why not chat with the people at NYU and see what they recommend?
Just a footnote…It is sad to say, but an accountant or lawyer has a better chance in the music industry than a musician does. :(
