music instructor rec for arts supplement - ? on how it's submitted

I have seen and read the pdf for the arts supplement. My ds is submitting a music supplement. The pdf indicates that music teacher letters of recommendation are to be submitted snail mail (there are even mailing labels one can print out at the end of the pdf with a space to fill in one's common app #). However, my ds is seeing on the common app Stanford music supplement a way for the music teacher to submit his letter via e-mail through the common app.

Anyone know which is correct/preferred? Is the snail mail option there just so there is an option? Should he call and ask?

TIA!

Either method is fine…whatever you are comfortable doing…FWIW, my K2 used the traditional method (snail mail) and got in…

…OTOH, if you are asking if Stanford has a “preference”…they do not…

Thank you! I had just not expected the common app option as the pdf had not indicated that was a choice. I haven’t looked at the common app - ds is handling all that - so I was surprised when he told me his teacher could submit that way. I am merely the secretary, and I was all ready to snail mail. We can let the teacher decide. Hope there is a way to see if and when he has submitted.

I think the art supplement should be something from your D, while the instructor should be invited as additional recommender. The art supplement may be a video clips or sound clips of your D’s performance. I guess pdf would be used for art portfolio like painting and photos.

^billcsho. Sorry for the confusion. Stanford has a 7-page (or so) long pdf that explains the arts supplement process. The pdf about that process stated that music teachers would snail mail letters of recommendation. The last page of Stanford’s pdf on the process even has printable mailing labels for that purpose. However, as my son was working on his Stanford supplement he saw the ability to invite the music teacher onto his Common App. I just did not expect this given what the Stanford instructions from their website had indicated. Those instructions did not indicate that inviting the music teacher onto the common app was an option.

My son followed precisely the instructions for submitting his music supplement. He included the recommendation with the packet. He was admitted. (of course, we don’t know if the supplement made any difference).
