Hi, my son is applying as a freshman for music major at CSULB. He had auditions on Sunday but still hasn’t heard anything. He has had several status changes before auditions, from “moved to competitive round”, to “sent to academic dept for review”, and now yesterday he received notice that he is “currently under consideration” for admission, and while he is waiting for a decision they wanted to inform he was " exempt" from these two placements tests. I’m hoping this is a good sign? Anyone else get this notice or been admitted to music dept already?
Thanks in advance!
My son auditioned for music early February, still waiting… also got that notice about English and math yesterday. At the parent meeting on our audition day they made it sound like we might hear from music department before the school, I feel like it should be any day now for the music department since the last auditions were held this weekend. Haven’t heard of any music acceptances yet…
Thank you for replying. Hopefully both of our sons will be accepted very soon!
I hope so!! Is your son auditioning as an instrumentalist or voice major? My son is bass trombone performance and probably music education also, also a freshman.
Piano Performance. Is your son doing a double major then? I didn’t realize he could have applied that way. But that would be great if he can do that eventually. Just hoping to get admitted at this point! LOL Still no answer today though!
My son’s best friend heard from music department last night that he was accepted by the music department for tuba. He has not heard from the school. Still waiting for both over here!!!
Actually, he got the email today!! Accepted to music department subject to school acceptance… so we still wait for that! But I feel like the hard part is over! And he’s being considered for scholarship money!! Yay!
Best of luck to your son!
My son got that scholarship email yesterday too! YAY! Hopefully soon they will have their official admission letters. Best of luck to your son too!!
does anyone know if any voice majors have got any acceptances yet? I’m really nervous Also, congratulations to your kids!
My son only knows other intstrumentalists, so don’t know about voice!! Good luck to you!
I’m sorry, but we don’t know any others either. We also still haven’t heard from the school with official admission letter, just the music department. Anyone else??
@soprano3 Are you a vocal performance or education major? Also have you heard from the university itself or just the conservatory?
My son is an instrument performance major, and he’s only heard from the conservatory. He is still waiting to hear from the university. Hope that helps!
Same with us!!! We have decisions to make, I hope he hears soon!!!
My son also received word from the conservatory but not yet from the university…time is ticking away
My son got an email from Dr. Arnold yesterday and it mentioned that if you had not yet been accepted to the school or if you had even been rejected to tell Rob Frear (who is the brass guy - my son is trombone performance major) and he will check on admission status and see if there is anything the music dept can do. So not sure what instruments the rest of you are besides pugmama’s son is piano, but maybe you will get a similar letter from whomever is in charge of your instrument/voice area??!
My son is a euphonium player and I did reach out to Rob last week but no response.
Still no news here. Admitted to our major but nothing from the university. Just confirming as freshmen they do not submit transcripts until the university requests they do, is that correct?
Same here @pugmama - no news from the school. I am pretty sure we don’t send transcripts till requested. Did you hear anything about the scholarships after that initial email? Still waiting on that too… in other news, my son is getting a D in AP English at the moment and this might all be a moot point! STRESSED mom alert!!!
We haven’t heard anything since that initial scholarship email. My son just checked his portal and it still says the same thing…forwarded to academic department for review. Has anyone with a talent based major heard from the university yet?
