I thought I heard something about non-music majors not being able to participate in Northwestern's music ensembles. Is this true? If so, are there any ensembles for non-music majors? Also, I was wondering what music lessons are like for music minors.

ummm as far as i know there are plenty of opportunities for non music majors, you can definately join the basketball band and marching band. as for actual ensembles, check out the website, but my friend who's there is majoring in engineering and he is in a concert band class for non majors.

My S met a fellow brass player who is a sophomore at Northwestern's School of Music. He likes the music performance program and is a good player but so far hasn't made any of the ensembles. Non-music majors are able to audition for ensembles. But my S, who wants to be in Arts & Sciences, thought he'd find tough competition from Music School students for ensemble spots and this would therefore limit his performance opportunities. My S did not visit the School of Music so perhaps his info is inaccurate or not up to date.

There is a non-majors orchestra, but I don't know how good it is.
