There's the Bowdoin International Music Festival during the summers, of course, but how is Bowdoin's music program otherwise? I'm particularly interested in composition - I've had a lot of experience in composition throughout high school, and plan to continue through college. Has anyone here had any experience with Bowdoin's music composition program? What about Bowdoin's music program in general? Thanks!

I can’t speak to the composition program at Bowdoin as it didn’t intrigue my son (who is planning to major in composition) but the cello teacher was my son’s teacher before she relocated from the West Coast and she’s marvelous.

If you’re looking for East Coast LAC’s with great composition programs I highly recommend you check out Bard College (and/or Conservatory), Williams, and Swarthmore. All three have solid interesting programs. Another possibility is Wesleyan although the emphasis tends more towards world music and experimental music.
