Does anybody knows if there is a substantial music scene at SB? I know there are a lot of raves, which indicates electronica/techno...but I'm more interested in indie/folk. From what I can tell, there's not much of a scene, but I thought I'd ask.

You got it right for the most part, but here and there people are playing different things.

good amount of reggae / chill surf music - rebelution, iration, jack johnson all went here too.

think “chill” music…reggae, soft rock, etc etc

youll hear about raves and bonfires in the mountains…dont go to them cause they cause wildfires and destroy the environment

practically every pro artist has been through santa barbara bowl at some point…

Thanks for the replies, guys. Looks like it’s not exactly my ideal, but I guess I can make it work. I’ll probably go to some open mic’s and see what kind of stuff I find there. And I’m in the College of Creative Studies, so maybe there’ll be some more diversity in tastes there as well.

definitely share the same sentiments with you on this one. then again, there’s more than 20,000 students at sb. we’re bound to find a good amount of people who share the same music interests as us :)

if it makes you feel any better, i am aware that interpol played on campus not too long ago. have faith!

you can get w/e you want in SB; every genre’s been though here at least once, whether it’s through the bowl, at extravaganza, at new noise, etc etc…it’s just that you have to pay more if you dont want soft rock or reggae cause there’s not much of a scene of anything else

be thankful that there is a scene in SB imo…most towns of 100k have nothing
