Okay guys, time for a laid-back thread for once. How's the music scene at Cornell? Are there many local bands? This is coming from a guitarist who wants to know if there'll be people to jam with.

Well I'm hoping to get into Cornell and I play bass and am hoping to jam with people.

The music scene at Cornell is great. Fanclub Collective and Cornell Concert Commission bring acts to campus. CCC brought RJD2 earlier this year, and the Decemberists and the Walkmen are coming in November. Citizen Cope and Andrew Bird played the past two weekends at the State Theater on the commons, and there are always local bands playing clubs and bars.

That's awesome. Who picks those artists?

You do. (If you join the Concert Commission or Fanclub Collective).

Don't forget about JAM, Risley, and the basement parties in Collegetown either.

Ithaca has the music scene of a city ten times its size.

Ithaca really does have a great music scene. One of my good friends was a jazz studies major at Ithaca College and I always went to a ton of shows around town. Cornell itself has a very strong music scene that constantly puts on great shows. I usually liked checking out some of the venues downtown as well (ex: The Haunt).

Plus, Ithaca is home to one of the most esteemed vintage guitar shops in the world (rumble seat music) where you can pick up your '54 Strat no problem.
