Music

I have a question about the musical groups at Amherst.

Throughout most of my life, I have played music. That being said, it is not my passion in life, though. I have been playing classical percussion music for about 7 years now and am quite good. The question is, can I play in the Wind Ensemble/Orchestra/Chamber groups at Amherst if I do not major in music?

Also, can I play in a musical group at another school in the Five College Consortium? UMass has an excellent Marimba group would it be possible for me to play in this if I attend Amherst?

Thanks for any help!

I believe the answer to both questions is yes. I don't think Amherst has enough music majors to fill an orchestra if they wanted to.

I'm fairly sure you can play in other 5 college ensembles, but there's a good chance that each school will give preference to its own students. You might check out the websites of the groups in which your interested and get their policies.
