Is it difficult to get into their school of music?

My D intends on auditioning for Ithaca. I think Ithaca is about as selective as, say, Crane is. I had heard an interesting story from D's JH music teacher (in her mid-late 20's) and she said she had auditioned at Ithaca for piano -Music Ed. She said she auditioned, played her piece perfectly, during the interview they asked her how long it had taken her to learn the piece, she said several months. When she got her rejection letter she was surprised, she knew she had auditioned quite well. Her GC called the school and they said bc of the way she answered that one question they felt that she would take too long to learn pieces if she entered the school. In hindsight, she said she knows she meant it took her several months to perfect the piece even though she had "learned" it in a shorter time. The kicker is she was accepted to the college w/ $15000 a year in scholarship money.

Another girl I know was told not to even show up for her audition bc she was not accepted to the college. Her mother was livid but idk at least it saved them the trip.

I think Ithaca is a little more competitive these days bc of the combo Music ED/Performance degree which seems to be very desirable to a lot of kids I talk to.

Good luck, I hope you do well.
