Is there any advantage to scheduling auditions in January vs February?
I don’t really think so; except I think if possible it’s nice to spread auditions out a bit, so if, God forbid, your kid gets sick for a full 10-14 days, it won’t mess up multiple auditions. I think that last year I tried to schedule a bit of a break just before and just after Chicago Unifieds, to lessen the odds of sickness and/or fatigue.
I agree with @owensfolks. We are trying to spread auditions into December and January. D does not want all eggs in February (Chicago Unifieds) basket!
@owensfolks and @artskids I heartily agree! Last year, my daughter closed a show on Sat. night before Chicago Unifieds then hopped the train all night to get to Chicago. She stayed healthy and had a great week at Unifieds, but she ran into trouble the next weekend when she got off the train and straight into the car for a 6 hour trip to Shenandoah. She got through it, but said she was definately not at her best because she was exhausted. She felt awful all the way home saying she knows how expensive and all the time and energy we all put into this and felt she let everyone down by not being at her best for that audition. We certainly didn’t feel that way, but these kids put a ton of pressure on themselves…and these auditions are exhausting!
Has anyone heard from Texas, Otterbein or Rider yet re auditions? They seem to be slow. DO they require applications to be totally complete before they will notify you?
Otterbein’s instructions are to not apply until after you have passed the pre-screen.
If you log into the Rider Portal it seems to have an item for the in person audition and a date for the audition. D did not get an email or other notification after submitting prescreen but when she checked the portal it had a new item and an audition date. I hope that helps.
Thanks @SASO792 and @entertainersmom. My S did find the Rider portal.
Has anyone heard back from the University of Michigan?
Have you heard anything from U. Michigan?
Just heard - Texas is just starting to look at prescreens…
@MTmomSF -Texas State? My D didn’t apply there, but it looks like an awesome program.
Yes, Texas State. It is a great program.
@mommafaria my D didn’t apply there, but as I recall U Mich is fairly slow in getting back on prescreens.
Waiting to hear if S got audition at NYU, Pace, Ithaca and UM. Auditions scheduled for Carnegie, Baldwin Wallace, and Point Park. How quick do you hear from these schools?
Some are faster than others with the prescreens. Pace is pretty quick. Ithaca took a little longer, but not too bad. I don’t know about NYU or UM as they weren’t on our list. If you have any questions about Point Park, let me know. My D is a sophomore there. We just came home from our second parents’ weekend. It goes by fast!
Auditioning there in November. How intense is the dance portion? My S is an actor-singer who can move. What should he expect?
Mine auditioned at Unifieds. She’s a decent dancer and found the dance portion challenging, but that being said not everyone in her class is a dancer by any means. Classes are leveled and there’s a broad range of abilities.
My D passed prescreens for Pace and Carnegie. Waiting on Elon, Penn State, Florida State, Ithaca, Syracuse and U of Michigan. We will be attending NYC Unifieds. Excited about the process but scared also. Anyone else going to NYC?
@mandidnam we will at NYC Unifieds as well. D passed prescreens for Shenandoah, CMU, PACE, Rider and Syracuse. Still waiting on Penn State, Otterbein and Ithaca. This process is crazy. So hard to even start to explain it to folks outside this community.
