My D did most her apps in mid-Nov. I remember one school posted on their website that they were at capacity for MT apps and as of Nov 1st(?) they were no longer accepting applications… We saw that, realized we missed the boat and saved the app/aud fees. Although it was a bummer that she missed an opportunity, I appreciated that they were forthright.
Mine got hers in between November 10 or so and December 15…much later than I wanted her to, especially since she started the process in June with coaching and picking music. Natural consequences are the best educators; she hopefully learned the importance of doing things early.
@collegemom2000 so true, about natural consequences. My kid is lucky, with regard to CMU. She came close, within a few days of the deadline. When she went to pace last week, during the parent Q&A they made a remark about people waiting till the last minute, and thanked us for getting their submissions in early. The bottom line is, we can only encourage and suggest, but it needs to be up to them (in my opinion).
I “passed” the pre-screens at Consortium auditions for UCO, Lindenwood, Memphis, UIW, Southwestern, Angelo State, Baylor, LSU, LIU, and Fairleigh Dickinson. I only submitted video pre-screens for TCU and Michigan. I got an audition for TCU but not for Michigan and there was no pre-screen required for NYU Tisch MT.
^^what are consortium auditions?
@bfahopeful - College Consortiums like the 5 college consortium with Smith, Mount Holyoke, Amherst, etc. Or the consortium of conservatory theatre training programs with CMU, BU, UNCSA, etc. But guessing the above poster is speaking about vocal major auditions based on their name?
Thank @stagedoormama. That makes sense. I know of the Conservatory consortium but wasn’t familiar with the group of schools listed or how they are related.
I don’t think that I saw this posted previously but we were at Shenandoah this weekend and they said that they had 1,000 applications this year and 200 passed the prescreen. The are looking for a class of 18. Last year more accepted than anticipated so the current freshman class is 24.
Wow they are doing it right in my opinion. The more they cut from prescreens, the less time and money wasted by us parents!!
@lots2learn we were there Saturday as well! Love that faculty & that school!!! I remember them also saying that they had a 66% increase this year in prescreen submissions… or something to that effect. Do you remember if that’s correct? So trying not to get attached to a certain school in this process but my daughter really pictures herself at Shenandoah!!!
I know what you mean @savedrama4momma - my son keeps saying he’s not going to get attached until he knows who wants him, but that is easier said then done! I really liked the MT session with the faculty as well. I think that you are right about the % increase in prescreen submissions.
I liked that they focused the field to 200 too. This was the first MT audition that looked to be fairly evenly split between M/F. Two of his earlier auditions without prescreens had 25-30% males. Gearing up for Chicago! Everyone stay healthy!!
@lots2learn see you in Chicago! BAL to your son! And yes! My D said ShenCo was her first audition that was 50/50 guy / girl! So nice to see!
