Must have SAT ll subject tests

Which ones are required by most good colleges?

Anyone?

Depends upon your intended major. STEM usually wants to see Math 2 and Physics or Chemistry or Biology.
Other majors, pick tests in which you think you will do well on.

It doesn’t matter - just take courses that you will do the best in. However:

  1. If you are going to major in Engineering, you should probably take Math 2 and Physics and/or Chemistry

  2. Don’t take Math 1. There is no reason to. If you are not good in Math, take a social science

  3. Literature is a good one if you don’t have lots of time to prepare in advance.

If a student isn’t sure about his/her major or wants to keep all options open then what to do? Some say that one English, one second language, one science and one math SAT covers it well. Is it true?

@WorryHurry411 - No, you do not need 4 SAT Subject tests. I would focus on two only and make sure you prepare well enough to do your best. Only if you are applying to a school that requires 3 tests (e.g., Georgetown) should you do more than 2.

The important issue is that you only have a finite amount of time each week. You are better off getting good grades in school, spending time on your sport/ECs or just hanging out with your friends than studying for 2 extra SAT Subject tests.

I asked for a student who doesn’t study for standardized tests, just rides on paying attention in school and having natural test taking skills.

Student scored 1510 on PSAT and 35 on ACT as a sophomore. Only issue is not being certain about future profession.

OP - my daughter was in the same position as you last year. She is unsure of college major and is leaning towards STEM major. She is a good all-rounder. She took Literature, a language and a science at the end of sophomore year and got c. 750 on all of them. We are done with SAT2s and are now focusing on other parts of her resume. Therefore, what I recommended to you worked well for my daughter.

1 math and 1 science are usually sufficient for most colleges.
