Mvp

so anyone going? it's on the weekend of april 20-22. I called them and they told me that they (Rochester) will contribute 75% of the traveling expenses.

i was gonna go.....but im going on a different trip that day =(
really sux =/

I am going on the 21st...where did you get the info on the 75% contribution? That's great news! Who do we contact about the contribution. Thanks soyeahiknow!

May-
I called the office of admission. the # that was on the mail they sent us. She told me that you have to save ur recipt and mail to rochester and they should send u a check in 2-3 weeks with the 75%.

only thing that sucks is that Amtrek has horrible hours, the train don't leave til 4 in the morning and it doesn't come back until 11 pm on the day we leave rochester. any ideas of dif. transportation? there's greyhound but it's hard to sleep and there's no space or ac power for laptop or dining car

I owe you a big thank you! You saved me a lot of money!!
I am flying - from Oregon. Don't look forward to the hours on the plane which will seem forever. You must live closer to Rochester.
Have you planned out your day at UR (with the Build Your Day)?

dun forget that they help you pay only if you register before April 13th

are you sure? Because when i called a while ago asking if airlines and hotels near rochester give discounts to students visiting campus the admissions person said no and that there was nothing of the sort. conflicting info...@_@ i couldn't find anything online about it either.

Contact the hotels directly to determine if they have discounts. The one we're staying at did.

What's the difference between SOC and MVP? Is MVP by invitation only?

no clue....maybe.....i did get a letter and email directly from rochester tho....

best method of transportation to Rochester is by flight. The prices are pretty much on par with train/bus.

Jetblue is ideal.

US Airways if you must (not so comfortable).

this won't help anyone who didn't sign up yet, but here is a email from UofR:

and it's 75%. nit sure if that include Taxi service but I think they have a shuttle service for that day since so many ppl are comming by plane, bus, and train

Thanks for the explanation.

soyeahiknow, may i ask where your location is? I emailed them last week (before the 13th, after i registered) about this payment assistance but they said:

Greetings from the University of Rochester ! If you are visiting our campus for MVP Weekend, you will unfortunately need to arrange your own mode of transportation-whether coming to our campus by car, train, bus, or plane-for which you will have to fund your trip. We will have shuttle service available on Friday and Monday between 9a and 5p; but, if you arrive or leave before this time frame, you will have to take a taxi to the campus on your own. If you are coming on Friday, we ask that you be here by at least 2p for check-in before you get paired up with a current UR student host. You can visit the following websites to compare transportation costs to see which one is more feasible for you.....

yes, I am from ohio, about 7 hours away by train. I called the phone number listed in the mail that i got about MVP day and they told me that 75% of traveling is given back to me by rochester. From ur email, I think they ar saying that u have to pay up front right now, but u will get a 75% refund from the college.

you can always call Rochester just to make sure. itmight depend on if u wer e invited? or where ur location is? Is MVP even a invite only? (I don't think so... but who knows...)

i actually live in new york city.. um 6 hrs by greyhound and yes, i was invited lol i think everyone is. i guess i'll call them up to see whats happening, thanks.

I go NYC about twice a year, I have a lot of family up there. Could you tell me the details bout ur call once u made it? i was wondering how the shuttle service works, is there a phone number to call or do they come every half hour? and do they come to the Amtrak station?

of course theres amtrak in nyc lol (penn station) which is accessible by subway, too. shuttle is from airport (im flying in) but theres prollly shuttle from amtrak station/ bus stops in rochester, as well. im not sure about the details yet, after u sign up n tell them how ur getting there, they should be emailing u more information.

oops i read ur question wrong. yes, theres shuttle coming to the amtrak station from what i understand after reading the email cause there was a suggestion of diff transportation n amtrak was listed
