my advice for housing applications

Can anyone tell me what is a plus-1? It's supposedly worse than a triple, but I have no clue what that is.

a plus-1 is a double made into a triple. essentially, you have three people in a space meant for two people

sweeet i turned it in the night i got my acceptance

aren't sixth triples the biggest ones? from what it says on the website, they are supposed to be 12x16 feet - bigger than any other triples

i heard from my HA that in muir there will be barely any doubles next year... and i ratesavers there are three people... i know... i live in one =D... and triples are not miserable!! this year a lot of people got into muir so they had to turn a lot of double rooms into triples... and even so theres tons of space still... compared to sixth triples where the only space is a little walkway between bunkbeds...

^i don't think so...i think the SIR/housing thing are independent of each other.

whats the difference between a ratesaver and a triple

Turn in your housing app right away, even if you aren't sure if you want to go to UCSD. I made the mistake of thinking that the SIR and housing app were to be done at the same time, but they are not. Not doing so will mean that you may get into a room with more people or be stuck in the Revelle Fleets (i.e., overflow buildings) I am there now and the buildings suck... So if you haven't turned in housing apps yet, do it now!

From the looks of it, there is no "ratesaver" anymore. But ratesaver rooms and triples are the same. The only difference seems to be that people who choose to have two roommates are put into "ratesavers" but those who wanted a double but forced to have two roommates are put into "triples." But they are the same kind of room and they cost the same. With triples as I described it however, you pay the amount of the double first and the school pays you credits for every day you are in the triple (unless that policy changed somehow). But if you do not choose to be in a triple but you are put into one, you get the opportunity to move to a double once someone from a double leaves housing for some reason.

Shoot, I missed this thread until today. I just submitted my housing application today. Is this too late for getting a single at Muir College? Does it help that I'm a Regents Scholar (I'm not sure if that gives me a bit more priority in housing or not)?

If we choose to be in a double on our housing app and then get stuck with a triple when housing assignments come out, do we still get the $750 housing discount for being in a triple? Or do only people who chose to be in a triple in the first place get the discount?

Azure: It may not be too late. At Warren, a lottery is used to give people singles. The date people submit their housing applications only affects whether people get res halls or apartments. Muir may do it the same way (I don't know). I don't think the Regents Scholarship will help you.

even as freshmens we get apartments?

does anyone know how the dorms are in Marshall? :P

Freshmen can be put into apartment if you request it...

In Muir, singles are awarded based on your reasons, believe it or not. At orientation, they give you a card if you requested a single and you have to explain why you want a single and then they choose who gets a sinle based on their reasoning (or so the housing deans say...). They give people with medical reasons priority. So turning it in late doesn't have any impact on your chance of getting a single in Muir, but you may be stuck into a triple because of tardiness.

And I heard that the Marshall res halls are pretty nice.

Hmm...are there certain things that people should avoid saying when asked why they want a single? Is it like a formal interview or something?

lol i know a person in muir who put down that he had severe ADD (he liessss) to get a single..and lo and behold he got one @_@

are Marshall apartments better than residence halls? the Rex halls look pretty crammed to me...but so do the apartments. And which apartments are better? the Upper apartments or the lower apartments. ALso, the "Plus-1" rooms in the Apartments are for one people or two or three (?)

P.S.
1) is it quieter in the apartments or in the rez halls,
2) which are more comfortable and
3) which are better for meeting people/socialization?

THanks so much guys!!!!

bump it up guys!

does submitting the SIR affect housing?

i'd like to know this
