This year nearly everyone's double room was turned into a triple I don't know how it will be for next year I have not looked up how many freshman they accepted as compared to last year. But if you guys look up how many people have been accepted compared to last year and it is similar then there will probably be tripling:

Turn in all your forms THE SECOND YOU GET THEM. For us this year the initial "intent to live in the dorms" form that did not require a $ check w/ it was used in determining who got stuck in a triple. The people who turned them in the first day got doubles.

One of my friends signed up for the "ratesaver room" - it's smaller than a normal "double" room so it's cheaper. While it's small and both beds are lofted w/ a desk and closet underneath- there will only be 2 people living in the room as opposed to all the triples. Dealing w/ one roomate is much easier than two- and my friends in this room think it's much better than the triples.

Or ask for a single: Even if you'd like to have a roomate. you'll make friends w/ your floormates quickly anyway.

Triple rooms = miserable

So if it is likely that you'll be tripled than consider my suggestions.

Also (at least for this year) certain colleges have less space than others.

This year: sixth college- 17 out of 20 rooms are tripled
Revelle- hardly any triples
ERC- mostly triples and some singles but rooms and common rooms are much bigger than sixth

And the people who determine roomates from your quesstionairre actually read what you write. So in the space for "other comments" write something that describes you ex) active/athletic, sorority girl, quiet/studious etc...

uhhh...i don't think anybody said revelle had good dorms.
i can tell you that they don't.
i was SHOCKED at how tiny their common room was compared to mine, my friend living in Revelle was also shocked when she saw how big my common room was haha

when you say to turn in forms the second you get them- are these forms that we will get in the mail? or is there something online we should look for?

also, can you turn in the "intent to live in the dorms" without the "SIR"?

wecandothis: I wish i could remember exactly but I think these forms are online and I think you do them before the SIR. Last year we had an ONLINE CHECKLIST possibly on tritonlink which tells you due dates for certain things like your hepatitis shot and stuff like that.

heck yes you're able to meet a lot of foreign exchange people!
it's incredibly easy since i-house is simply across the street.

two of my good friends are actually from belgium. she and her twin sister live in the apartments. it is so incredibly easy to meet foreign exchange students. just the other night i was talking with some irish dude; he had the cool accent and everything haha

i-house throws some pretty tight parties. just go to them and you'll be sure to meet all kinds of people

i've submitted my housing application already (right after i got accepted to revelle at ucsd) but when do i get to choose if i want a single or double? does submitting my SIR sooner affect what type of dorm i get?

I really don't think the SIR affected our room selection- at least for 2006/2007year.

But judging from '06/'07- turning in papers early seems like a good idea: SO if you're sure ucsd is the school for you might as well turn the SIR in asap.

I turned in what I thought was a housing application by clicking the link on the sidebar that said Housing App. But all it asked me was my ID and my birthday. After a couple of clicks, they gave me a receipt that I printed out.
I didn't pay or fill out roommate selection ?'s or pick the type of room.
