My AP Testing Dilemna (Insight would be much appreciated) What do I do about this? :(

Okay, so today was my AP English Language exam. This was one of my three AP tests scheduled, and in my opinion, clearly the easiest.

I have scheduled to take the AP Environmental Science test during a make-up date because I had food poisoning yesterday. I wasn't feeling too well today, but I really did not want the stress of taking two exams so I wanted to go to school to take my English exam today.

I went to the school gymnasium around 8:05-8:10 PST, and the test was already in progress. I could afford the few minutes. When I came in, the female proctor gave me my booklet and a multiple choice sheet and told me to just get started on it.

Basically when time came around, I was shocked that I had filled out barely 32 questions by the time the male college counselor comes into the gymnasium informing us that the multiple choice section was over. Well as it turns out, the test started at 7:30! I was completely and honestly dumbfounded, no peer nor teacher/adviser informed me about the start time being that early!

I was clearly upset but I tried to keep my cool. The female proctor had no idea what to do because she is new to the school, and relatively young; I'm guessing she thought she would be able to give me extra time, but the college counselor's opinion was paramount. I argued about my situation. His argument was that I had already opened the packet, seen questions, and therefore had to submit my packet since I was only a bit late. That was an understatement, seeing as how I was not aware it began at 7:30, I definitely missed more than just a little bit without even knowing it. I don't get that. I guess the test would be similar, but wouldn't the make-up test be a different test?

I kept refusing to fill out my information onto the multiple choice sheet, so he took all my sheets including the unopened essay portion, filled it out himself when I was supposedly unaware with all my information and said "Bye!". He was then instructing me to leave the gym. I told him, "I had not nearly the time permitted for the test, answered maybe half of the questions, I can't even take the makeup test? So I'm just going to fail like that?", and he said, "No, you're just gonna get a 1, and you're gonna think it's my fault too". He gave me my AP packet booklet. Feeling absolutely horrible, I just had to walk out the gym, with less than 35 minutes spent on the test and a little more than half of the answers filled out, with no essay response.

I definitely recognize my faults, but I feel totally screwed. My AP United States History test was scheduled to started at 8:00 and took a long time taking roll and getting everything prepared, so I thought at most I would be behind maybe 10 minutes at the most, which I felt I could afford. Never was I informed that the test started at 7:30 at any time. I am still in shock about what just took place minutes ago, I don't want my money to just go down the drain especially on the exam that I wholeheartedly know is quite easy to me.

I would really appreciate the input on what I can do about my situation.

unless you are in alaska, the test should start sometime inbetween 8 and 9

it says so on the multiple choice section.
call college boards testing integrity.

ya. you sign the front of the packet which says it must start between 8 and 9… someones in trouble!

If it actually started at 7:30, you’ve got a case to make against the exam’s administration. Call the College Board.

I agree with what everyone has said. The test HAS to start between 8-9 am. No writing can start before then. Even if it’s 7:59, technically.

I think your best bet is to email the College Board testing integrity, AND another part of the College Board. Maybe if you tell them your situation and what happened, they will schedule you on one of the retake days. That’s your best option.

I hope the best in your situation! I know it must’ve been annoying as hell. >_>

~ Theos

You should definately call the office of testing integrity. It clearly states that the exam must start between 8 and 9 and that you must refuse to take the test if it is offered to you at a different time. Unless you are in Alaska the proctor of the exam violated college board rules and thus you have a legitimate case.

Lol. That entire class will have their test voided. The school will probably be under investigation.

That’s hilarious.

Definitely report it. How daft is your college counselor? Seriously, he implied that you’d get a 1? He’s definitely looking after your best interests (sarcasm).

haha holy ■■■ i wanna see what happens out of this thread, this is sure to rock

Call the Office of Testing Integrity (as many others have said already). Your school violated the rules of testing by starting the test at 7:30 AM.

Be sure to have other test takers from your school call as well. College board will not respond to a single (whiny) call. Keep it simple: test started too early. They really don’t care if you were sick. Focus on the timing issue.

Wow. Just keep it to the point.
They started the test 30 minutes early.

They attempted to coerce you to sign and provide information.

Dude, your school is ridiculous. I would be furious of that happened to me. Definitely report them. Starting before 8:00 is a pretty big violation, especially half an hour before.

Your entire school is royally screwed. Everyone for every test will have their scores invalidated. You will be hated. But you won’t have a horrible 1 to look at, and you’ll have a chance to take it again

Yea lol. That might suggest that the standards were not enforced for everyone in the whole school.

Too bad. Mass retesting LOLOL. Although it might give you more time to study…?

Lol, I would definitely do that just to screw around because that teacher is definitely an ass. DO CALL COLLEGE BOARD.

And update us on everything that happens! haha

Not only will all the scores from your school be invalidated, but everyone who didn’t refuse to take the test before 8 will have this reported to their colleges as an instance of “academic dishonesty” and will likely have their admissions rescinded if they’re a senior or just won’t be accepted to most good institutions if they’re not. This actually happened in Tulsa… Google it. On the bright side, apparently all of the points that those people lost from their illegitimate AP’s will be redistributed to you.
