Over the past summer, I lifeguarded at a town pool. The pool director adored me and at the end of the summer told me I'd be sure to be hired next summer. Typically around this time he'd be sending out contracts for the lifeguards he would be inviting back but he sent an e-mail to all of last year's staff yesterday saying he would not be returning to be pool director this season. However, he did not make it clear what our status of employment was. I was counting on the money I'd make at the pool this summer and during pre-season (maintenance) to go toward a bunch of things I need, but now I'm not sure if I (or for that matter, anyone else I worked with during the summer) will have a job. Has anyone been through a similar situation before or know what my possible options would be here?

Ask questions. Ask him. Ask the company that hired him. Stop spending time on here, and starting asking questions to people that matter.

Also, start sending your resume to other pools, or apply to other jobs in general. Start IMMEDIATELY.
