My job is consuming a lot of my time. I am approaching my senior year and want to study the SAT for the October test, november subject tests, and just completing my summer work. But my job is getting in the way. I really want to quit but I am nervous about doing so. How do I do it? Do I give a letter or tell them I am quitting and walk off...okay probably not the last one. I have worked there since March.

I think you give a letter, but it also depends on the job. If you work in a grocery store or something, it’s probably different than working in a company. Where do you work?

I work as a cashier for a mini amusement park.

Letter of resignation with at least a two week notice so they have time to fill your position. At least, that’s the standard way of going about leaving a part-tome job. The company you work for may have specific instructions which you should look up in your employee procedures/handbook.

I recently quit my summer job because my fall sports are starting and I don’t have enough hours of availability. At my work (retail) they have a little file cabinet thing in the break room with all the papers we might need including switch shift forms, formal complaints, and resignation notices. I just filled out the resignation notice and handed it to a manager and the conversation just went like this:
Manager: “aw that’s too bad”
Me: “can I come back in November?”
Manager “yeah sure”
It probably won’t be a big deal so maybe ask another employee if they know if your company has specific resignation papers, otherwise you can just type up a nice short letter explaining you’re quitting and why, and when your last day will be.
