EC: AGS (Treasurer), Economics club, Math competition in high school, No work experience since I'm not eligible to (I worked as a waitress, got paid under table, does that count as work?)

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, USC, UCSD

I'm doing TAP

Came to USA in 2004...English as second language...What else...I guess that's it...:P

You have a very good chance at all the schools.
Just make sure you complete all the major reqs for UCB and UCLA and you'll be fine. Raising your GPA above 3.8 would definitely make your chance better, but you are still good as it is now.

None of those schools are a guaranteed (except you are almost guaranteed at UCSD with those stats) but you will be competitive at every school you will apply to.

hey UCBorUCLA, I really hope you don't mind if I do a bit of a threadjack since you already managed to get some replies.

Could someone please chance me (For UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCi)?

Major: Economics

Here are my stats:

My Stats:
GPA - Aiming for a high 3.8 or low 3.9 by the end of the fall quarter coming up (with rougly 68-70 quarter units complete)
Should be IGETC certified
TRYING to be TAP certified but it's becoming increasingly complicated
H.S. GPA - 3.2 or less, definitely didn't see myself as college bound in H.S.

EC's -
-phi theta kappa member,
-a LOT of EC's in high school,
-worked part time for the last 2 years at the same company alternating between a position in marketing and a position in I.T. (paid position)
-currently in India working for Sem. India / Xalted Inc. as a project manager (paid position) (traveled between Bangalore and Bombay to organize a shift of 150+ employees to a new location)
- Also did research on the economic value of RFID applications in industries such as the airline and retail industries @ Xalted in Bombay
(Side note: I'm ethnically indian but trust me I am a complete fish out of water while in India [usa born and raised ])

Potential problems with my transfer app:
Spring 07 quarter I became extremely sick / had serious sleep issues / and family needed help financially (my family = my mom little sister and me) so I dropped a majority of my classes and ended up w/ only 9 units. 1st quarter I took 22units 2nd quarter I took 14 units so all in all it kind of balances out.

edit - the only difference change in my stats is that my internship in india is now complete

wow that was pretty stupid on my part. Yes you have a good chance but your high school EC's will not really matter unless they are very important.

I never understood why some people put PTK as an EC... paying $75 for a organization in which most members don't even participate in and then listing it on your application is something I never understood why people do.

and if you actually wanted to do something cool, like use phi theta kappa as a resource to complete cool projects, well that might be an option too right?

I'd say having a project that you specifically worked on, or even better, created is worth more points than listing yourself as a member of phi theta kappa.

UCLA: Match
UCB: Match/Slight reach
UCSD: Match

Include your waitress position. You worked. Don't worry about it. The adcoms won't check your w2s. Income isn't heavily factored. Except from a holistic point of view (IE you state your parents were poor and it was tough getting money to buy books/supplies/transportation)

Colin..Phi Theta Kappa offers opportunities in everything imaginable related to scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship. You determine your experience with Phi Theta Kappa. If you choose not to participate you could just pay the membership fee and tack it on to your transcript, but there are so many opportunities in Phi Theta Kappa that any member could find one that fits his/her interests. If not for Phi Theta Kappa I don't think I would have become such an ambitious student and developed as many leadership skills as I have. Because of it, I was acquainted with the whole faculty/staff at my college and even got a great job at school working in something related to my field of study. And also, it's an honor just to be in Phi Theta Kappa because only less than 10% of all community college students are invited to join. I would highly advise joining if you haven't already and really become involved because it can really make your CC experience worthwhile. You will be surprised at how many people like yourself you will meet and how much fun you'll have.

Schools Applying to: UCSD (First Choice) and UCLA, maybe UCB
Major: Neuroscience (Pre-Med)
GPA: 3.61
IGETC: Will be complete by this spring.
Pre-Reqs: All will be complete except O-Chem & Physics. O-Chem is considered upper-div at SD, so I heard it isn't necessary for all to be complete. Also, UCSD gives you a semester to make up your deficit once you transfer so I'm hoping that those deficits wont make a big difference.
