My Chances at Some Tough Schools (Just Got My SATs)

GPA: 3.6 (Unweighted)

SATs
Math: 710
CR: 730
Writing: 670

SAT II:
US History: 740
Math II: 570 (Retaking)

Activities: Eagle Scout, Captain of Mock Trial Team, National Honors Society, National Youth Leadership Council

My Colleges in order of choice:

UPenn
Georgetown (Quality Legacy)
Boston College
Emory
USC
Villanova
Richmond

Uh, can you say,"I need a safety!!".....No idea what your course rigor is, but none of your choices are a sure thing (all super-competitive?)...You have a chance at all of them, but need 1 or 2 safeties in case this year is a blood-bath (which it is supposed to be).....

I thought Richmond is a safety?

Richmond and Villanova are your closest matches, but you really need more backups because those are tough schools. good luck.

That's the only school on your list I do not have knowledge of..If it is, then you are set....

My guess (only based on your SATS, I'm assuming your GPA is in the ballpark) is you'll probably get accepted at Richmond, but it does not meet the criteria of a safety. It's a match. rodney is right, you need at least one safety.

I'm applying early action to Georgetown, Villanova, and Boston College. I'll see if I'm into any of them which if I am would mean that applying to a safety is no loger necessary but if I'm not then I'll look into it for RD. I think I will get into Georgetown because of the legacy factor alone and because the business school os slightly easier to get into than the CAS and SFS.

Anyway, can someone give me a breakdown of match high/low and reach high/low?

Might want to look at Holy Cross.

Assuming you are not a URM:

UPenn: Essentially no chance
Georgetown: Slight Reach (even with the legacy)
BC: Slight Reach
Emory: Slight Reach
USC: High Match
Villanova: Match
Richmond: Match

What is your class rank? Your GPA seems low for most of these schools. The average GPA for getting into Holy Cross is 3.75 and HC is easier to get into than most of the schools on your list except for Villanova and possibly Richmond.

I don't want to go to Holy Cross. I prefer to go South if possible.

My school does not rank but if it did I would be in the top 10% of my class with an unweighted GPA of 3.8. I'm surprised that people here think Richmond isn't a safety as that was what my guidance counselor had told me. I'll deal with that once I see if I get into my EA schools.

But Boston College a reach? My SATs aren't even in their mid 50% range

I agree that Richmond is a safety and you will almost certainly get into BC. Villanova is also a safety.

I don't know if Villanova is a safety as the business school is quite competitive.

Richmond, Villanova, BC - you're in. Penn - long shot with your gpa, unless you are at some fantastically difficult high school; Don't know enough about the rest.

Good luck

I don't agree that you have little to no chance at UPenn -- you definitely do.

Thank you all. sinistercharity scared me a little to be honest. I should really point out though that my dad who went to Georgetown is an interviewer and a pretty significant doner (about the $20,000 a year mark with more during their campains). I'm kinda banking on that to get me into Georgetown even though i know it's no garauntee.

I understand the longshot that is Penn but I told myself that I'd at least apply since it is my life's dream to work on Wall Street and there's no better school for it than Penn.

I would think that Emory and USC would be my next hardest schools after Penn? Thoughts???

bumpbumpbump

You should not count on your Dad's generousity to Georgetown to be a guaranteed acceptance. In the world of college acceptances, you can't "bank" on anything. And, excuse me, but you really shouldn't post dollar amounts that your parents donate, even in an anonymous forum. There are so many people here looking desperately for financial aid, it could be seen as insensitive.
