I took my SAT on October 9th.I'm a senior right now attending high school in a foreign country but I'm American.(Not iin the U.S.A)

The first time I took it I got a 1260 or something(Yes, I'm not the sharpest tool ). This was in 11th. (I did not know I would be moving back the U.S.A till 3 months ago, so I was ignorant about the SAT and didn't take it seriously.). For an utter dull SAT writer like me I think working hard to gain a 1780 from a 1260 is incredible, especially if you consider the span of the time.
I dont think it's that bad because I've researched online and one girl got into Purdue with a 1780. So it cant be horribe.

My grades here in this foreign country are as follows:

10th = 70% aggregate.
11th = 68%
12th = In it right now.
*When most university counsellors came to this country they told me anything from a 60-100 is considered an American A+. I've spoken to several counsellors and it seems they will inflate these aggregates to make the differences in the academic systems equal.

My extracurriculars are as follows:
School basketball team
Student council member
Speech and Debate club

I'm extremely interested in the University of Texas @ Dallas, Texas A&M, and RUTGERS New Brunswick.

I've spoken it UTD and Rutgers Camden counsellors and I've explained the entire scenario. UTD guy told me I'd get in "typically" because people with a CR +M of 1200 or above are guarenteed admission or something. Mine is 1210.

Rutgers lady told me I "appear to be a promising candidate for Rutger Camden campus".

I just wanted all of your perspectives . I'd really appreciate it if you can fill me in on if the colleges I've chosen will take me or if you know anything else that I sound like a prospective admittant for.
BTW: I will not be writing the SAT again even though I believe I can get a 1900+. It's too late and I've already lost hope on a branded undergraduate school. So please dont reply with any assumption of me writing again.

From what I know of the process you should have no problems at all.

Admission Process For Freshman Students - UT Dallas

From the UTD website:

Assured Admission Criteria: Students who take the Texas recommended high school curriculum and graduate in good standing and who possess any of the following scores or rankings are assured admission:
Minimum Test Score for Assured Admission
High School Class Rank ACT SAT

Top 15% No Minimum
First Quarter 26 Composite 1200 (CR + M)
Second Quarter 26 Composite 1200 (CR + M)
Lower Half 26 Composite 1200 (CR + M)

Entering freshmen should have successfully completed a full, college-track high school curriculum, including language arts (4 units), mathematics (3.5 units), science (3 units of laboratory science, excluding physical science), social sciences (3 units), foreign language (2 units in a single foreign language), and fine arts (.5 unit in music, art, or drama). In addition, students must demonstrate strong general verbal/quantitative aptitudes as measured on national standardized tests (ACT or SAT).

All students who do not meet the assured admission criteria are reviewed by the UT Dallas Admissions Committee. The UT Dallas Admissions Committee considers the applicant’s achievements in work experiences, community service, extracurricular activities, and surmounting obstacles to pursue higher education. Letters of reference from high school teachers, counselors, supervisors and activity leaders are appropriate in such instances. Students seeking such consideration should respond to essay topic C on the ApplyTexas Application. Students may refer to a UT Dallas admissions advisor for further clarification

HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL TO YOU

DI66666:

Your list of schools is a bit unusual. Texas a & m couldn’t be more different than UT-D.
I don’t know if I would go to Rutgars except at their main campus.

Camden is a pretty rough city and the recession/bad governmental policies has hit New Jersey pretty hard. Not sure what the job market will be like there. Job Market is still relatively good in Texas.

Thanks a billion for replying! I was checking every 4 hours for a reply.

Yeah no doubt about RUTGERS main campus. It’s the main campus or nothing. I’ve spoken to the counsellor like I said and she said I’ll most likely get in CAMDEN. But I’m entirely against it and so is my family, in fact I decided not to apply to RUTGERS CAMDEN. Its Rutgers New Brunswick or UTD.

My list is unusual because of family issues. I know it sounds hilarious but my parents rather live in the same city as me because they know what “kids do after they leave parents’ eyes”.

I’ll be moving to Dallas soon, that’s why UTD is of extreme importance.
Are you sure my chances at UTD are good because the acceptance rate is scaring me. It’s
52 %.

Do you personally know anybody who got into UTD? I read what you pasted before but I dont like those generalised statements. And I’m even more nervouse because I have a feeling they’ll count me as an out of the state student because I believe Texan students are given priority.

I’ve heard stories of how 4.0 GPA with 2140 SAT kids didn’t get accepted into UCLA and UC Berkeley because they were out of state, and Cali students with 1700-1900 SATS got in. Hopefully I’m wrong.

UT D is a fine school for someone who is looking for a rather large school which is on the move. There has been tremendous change in the past few years as the student body has rapidly increased in size (it is now 17000). There is a lot of construction on campus.

If there was one critism it would be that it is a bit light on campus atmosphere. It has less greek life than other colleges and I am unaware of any actual frat houses. Undergraduates have told me that the campus is a bit quiet on weekends. It does not have football team which sort of defines most Texas Colleges.

Still I have personally observed an increase in social student activites in the past year or so.

I think it is a very good value for the money and I suspect that in the next ten years it will be considered a major University. However it is still developing and there will be continued growing pains.

Other schools in the Dallas area you might consider is SMU (Private), University of Dallas (private), University of North Texas-Dallas (public and new), University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Christian University (Fort Worth) and University of North Texas-Denton.

One more thing you might consider: Try reading the college newspapers on line. You really can get a good idea of what the issues and gripes are on campus from the daily newspapers which are printed when school is in session.

Hope this helps
