My chances for a transfer(George Washington, Northeastern, Boston College, Lehigh and American)

I didn’t work to my potential in high school. I didn’t study much and was absent a multitude of days in freshman and sophomore years due to concussions. However I did take honors classes in all subjects, APUSH and AP Italian; I finished with a weighted 3.66 average. With no medical issues I completed my freshman year at St. John’s University (Queens NY) as a politics and government major. I finished with a 3.89 GPA with 30 credits completed. I plan to transfer for the spring 2018 semester, what would be my chances of getting into any schools I listed above?
Thank you!

Bump, if anyone knows my chances or needs anymore information please let me know!

Your college GPA is looking great! Be sure to look into the pre-requisites for transfer students to those colleges (especially credit amount requirement), I’m not sure about the others but I know Boston College should be a viable option. Are you O.K. with affording those colleges or will you need a decent amount of fin. aid. in order to attend? Boston College has a meet-full need policy, I’m not too sure of the others but I can imagine that they won’t have too much merit aid for transfers especially those coming in the Spring.

Your chances would certainly be better if you apply next Fall with more credits but I would certainly encourage you to apply!

Thanks for the reply, financials aren’t an issue for me at all. Also Georgetown has always been my dream school, is it pushing it to try for Georgetown?

@Rkat810 Certainly not. It’s a tough school to get into (read up on their Common Data Set under the transfer section for more info), but it’s not out of reach for you by any means.

If you want an idea of who they usually admit, search around this website for “Georgetown Fall 2017 Transfer Thread”. I’m sure you’ll find something, along with threads from previous years as well.

Are you applying to transfer because you dislike st johns? Or just because you want to see if you get in somewhere better?

Mostly because I want to go somewhere better. However, I’m not 100% happy there. By no means do I dislike st John’s but I also don’t feel I’m in my niche there.

@Rkat810 , I recommend you increase the pool of schools you’re applying to. Your GPA is great, and it opens quite a lot of doors. Do you have any other schools in mind?

Some other colleges I had in mind were Cornell, Georgetown, Tufts, Upenn and Yale has always been my dream school. However I thought it would be an unrealistic expectation to get into any of those schools with my low HS GPA.

They’re unrealistic even if you’re a perfect student unfortunately. Northeastern has a slightly higher transfer acceptance rate.

@Rkat810 , throw in Cornell and Tufts. They’re great schools and have relatively high acceptance rates for their ranking. Any other schools? Perhaps NYU?

I’m not really interested in NYU, being in Manhattan isn’t s city I would want to live in

I totally understand that, lived in the Bronx and Manhattan for a little over a year -_-

In any event, how do you feel about perhaps University of Southern California? Great start up culture, lots to do in SoCal. I’m also tempted to say that you should go for UPenn. Though their PoliSci and Business departments are strong, they’re extremely competitive, so low acceptance rates, but you won’t get accepted if you don’t apply, eh?

How many schools do you have on your list so far with everything in mind? Any region / state that you would like to live in?

I definitely wouldn’t want to go to Cali. My family lives on long island and in would love to visit them at last once a month. Ideally i would want to be on any of the following states- New York, New Jersey, Maryland, D.C., Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire or Vermont.
