So thats all the things I can think of as of now… my teacher recs are still being written but they should be pretty good and I haven’t done my essays yet. Suggestions are welcomed!! Thanks

You look good to me. I know Bowdoin is test optional but you should send your ACTs. Do they superscore? If not, what is your highest composite from a single sitting?

I’m from OH and also applying to Bowdoin, but not ED. I think you have a good chance, especially with the Clinic internship (at least at my school, that’s really respected.) Good luck! Work hard on the essay, that’s what will set you apart.

bump10char

I don’t think Bowdoin superscores, but you probably are an attractive candidate anyway. Are you a good enough swimmer to attract the coach’s interest? Assuming you are considering swimming in college. Having the support of a coach doesn’t hurt.

I DO think bowdoin superscores the ACT… Who is right? Can anyone confirm?

I am pretty sure Bowdoin superscores…

I was considering swimming in college but how do I know if my times are even good enough? Basically my question is “How good at my sport do I have to be in order to apply as a student-athelete?”

The only way you can know how good you have to be for the sport at any college is to talk to that sport’s coach and tell them what you can do. They’ll let you know whether or not they’re interested.

Thanks for the comment steve I might contact the coach just to see what happens. On another note should I send in a photography portfolio even though its just a hobby of mine that i do in my free time?

no worries =)
hopefully we will both be at Bowdoin this time next year!

Sushi - Go [here](http://athletics.bowdoin.edu/sports/wswimdive/index) and look for your event in some of last year’s meet to set a general sense of how your times would stack up at the college level.

well my BEST times in my events are kind of similar to the results of their slowest swimmer…

I’d send the photography portfolio (not too many, only the best 10-20). It can’t hurt… read the guidelines though.

Sushi - I would still talk to the coach as there may be a certain predictable amount of improvement in speed that will happen at the college level and make you a college caliber swimmer. You’re probably not a candidate for a “tip” (which provides a nice bump in the admissions process for certain athletes) but you could be a candidate for a good word from the coach . .

ok thanks for the advice guys :)

also I’m having trouble with understanding what the Bowdoin supplement prompt is asking for…can anyone help me with that? Perhaps someone can share their topic so I can get a better idea of what to write? Thanks!

^ill pm you and we can discuss some details of the supp

sure thing thx!

Sorry for taking over but, can someone else also help me on the supplement? I am a little confused on the prompt.

hey sushi, i’m a swimmer too. i ended up emailing the coach a few weeks ago… he was very nice, sent me a personal response and everything…

i actually saw the team swim yesterday at a meet; they’re good, but not insane. the coach seemed really friendly, supportive, etc. but anyways, there definitely some swimmers who were very competitive, in the last heats and what not, but also some in the first ones, who would be considered (very) good HS swimmers, but were not as fast. during the break between sessions, they were all really close… it was pretty cool to see.

… i don’t know if this is at all helpful, but thought i’d share anyways  … i guess my point is, it’s probably worth contacting him, even if the point where it could really affect your decision has passed… good luck!

haha thx for sharing but as of now ive decided that im probably not going to be swimming in college
