*Background information: I go to a community college in New York, but I guess it is a part of the SUNY system so I'd presume it to have a little more merit than your general cc. I'm applying to Steinhardt as a Psychology major for the Spring of 2011 and by then I'd have my two-year degree. My high school GPA was absolutely terrible, a 3.0 and my SAT scores are so bad that I actually plan on having them removed from my transcript before applying (NYU does not require SAT scores now for transfer students). Although I did not take any AP or Honors classes in high school, I took two college level courses my senior year. I was never involved in anything extracurricular in high school.

*Academic Standing: My current GPA is a 3.884 but I was hoping to boost it to a 3.9 by the end of this semester. I am in the Honors Program and plan on receiving 1-2 honors credits this semester. I have made the Dean's List every semester and will continue to.

*Extracurricular: My extracurriculars really suck, as my school offers barely any clubs. Despite this, I have approximately 40 hours of volunteer work at a soup kitchen feeding the less fortunate. I also have volunteer experience raising money for a breast cancer foundation (working a children's game at a fund raiser and helping out at a booth during a fair). I have much work experience: 3 years working as a file clerk in a pediatrician's office during high school and 1 year waitressing at an Italian restaurant.

Any suggestions on what I can improve to increase my chances? Any thoughts on whether I have a chance to begin with considering my background information potentially dragging me down?
