My chances for NYU Stern?

GPA: 4.2630

Course Load: Have been in the Cambridge (AICE) program and expecting to graduate with the AICE diploma. Have taken only academic courses throughout high school, none of which were below honors, and have taken strictly Pre-AICE, Honors, AP and AICE classes all throughout high school (mostly AICE and Pre-AICE classes). This year, for instance, I am taking two AP and two AICE classes.

ACT Composite: 28
Highest English: 33
Highest Math: 27
Highest Reading: 27
Highest Science: 27

EC:
Intern for Columbia Research Project (Polisci)
Intern for Boston College Research Project (Finance)
Leader and Founder of Micro Investment Group (Group of investors that make stock trades together)
President and Founder of Investor’s Club
President of Young Democrats
Leader of Financial Youth Chapter
Mentor for Troubled Teen
Statistics and Geometry Math Team Competitor
Shadowed a New York City stock broker
Volunteer for Florida Democratic Party

My essays were revised multiple times be English graduates from the University of Florida, so I am very confident those turned out well too.

I also have a letter of recommendation from a very close teacher of mine (his letter apparently gave me raving reviews)
and one from the Professor I interned for at Columbia University.

I also applied to Gallatin and CAS on the Common App where they ask if there are any alternate programs I would consider admitting to. Where would my chances be with those two as well?

If there are any questions or need clarifications, please let me know! Thank again!

That ACT might by your downfall. However, your EC’s look very impressive and if you are confident in your essays, then you have a good chance regardless of your ACT and GPA. Just remember that NYU Stern is very competitive and only a handful of applicants get chosen. At this point, NYU Stern may be within the range of possible to reach. Best of luck!

Thank you! I appreciate your input. If Stern does not admit me for whatever reason, do you find it likely that I could be offered a spot in CAS considering I placed that as a backup program?

It all depends. If they feel that you are a good fit into CAS, then they’ll admit you. There certainly is a notable difference for business majors between Stern and CAS. Keep it as a backup just in case, but don’t count on it if you don’t get into Stern because all the colleges are difficult to get into.

I follow NYU admission blog for awhile and I believe they stated that it’s very unlikely for people to be rejected from Stern but accepted to CAS as their second choice, due to the competitive nature of both schools. I think you should target yourself to the fit school and care less about the alternative choice

That makes sense, I am just trying pondering all possibilities. What do you think about my chances to Stern, since you have been an avid follower of the NYU admission blog?

@Tckkct http://admissionsblog.nyu.edu/2016/02/03/how-i-read-an-application-with-the-help-of-one-direction/ you can have a look at this link to see how the adcom reads an application. At the moment, your only weakness is your standardized score, other aspects in your application are very impressive! But I think NYU Stern focuses the most on academic achievements so if you can retake the ACT and get a 32+, you"ll definitely have a solid chance at Stern.
Also, is the AICE diploma similar to the A-level? Because NYU allows you to send in nationally accredited exams to replace the SAT/ACT!

Thank you for your input! I early decided to the decision comes out Thursday. Does applying early help for somewhere like Stern considering most business-centric students would normally ED to Penn?

@Tckkct I don’t know about the specific ED acceptance rate for Stern, but the overall ED rate for NYU is the same as RD (NYU is one of the few schools that doesn’t take applicant’s interest into account). However, I still applied ED due to the smaller pool of applicants and yes, no Wharton rejected kids in this round hahaha
