My dream is to get accepted into UChicago. I am 16 years old and I'm entering 11th grade. I want to be a physicist. I am volunteering at a hospice, FermiLab, and an animal control center. I plan on taking up two internships next year and another in summer of community college. I play guitar and piano. I know music theory. I do martial arts. I am a member of the Chicago Astronomical Society. I have all A's and B's. I plan on joining the science olympiad next year. I know English, Arabic, and Spanish. I plan on learning Chinese and German. I am also going to go to College of Dupage (a community college) first. I also plan on getting supplementary evaluations from scientists at FermiLab. What else should I do so I can get into UChicago? Any advice? Thanks guys!

Edit: I'm going to try to go for a 30 or higher on the ACT. I'm also an American-Egyptian.

You need to do really well on the ACT/SAT (32+on ACT, 2150+ on SAT) tests. You have a lot of interests, but you should go deeper into a few interests - seek leadership roles and really accomplish something noteworthy. Your grades in your junior year need to be all A’s. You need to be taking the hardest classes offered by your school.

I understand my chances are quite low right now. Though, I think I can increase it in junior. Problem is it’s hard for me to get a lot of awards and extracurricular activities at my high school. My school doesn’t offer any AP classes either.

What is something noteworthy I can do? I’d prefer something not given by school.

Thats up to you to figure out. Doesn’t have to be in school, it can be in the community. You are competing against the brightest kids un the country. You need to figure out how to stand out. Just make sure whatever you do is something you care about.

Good luck!

Why are you going to a community college first? If it’s a money issue, UChicago will do its best to make what you pay reasonable, as long as you are accepted. But your chances alone are average or slightly above average, depending what you can do in FermiLab and your Junior year

Thank you Blueash.

I’m going to community college first because I did horrible in freshman and sophmore year. I want to make up for it, so I can have a better chance at transfering to UChicago.

Also what are my chances for getting accepted into Northwestern? I know Northwestern is easier to get into than UChicago.

Both hard to get into. Since you are local, why not make an appointment with the admissions office and discuss your situation. I don’t thing going to a cc will help.
