So I know a lot of people ask their chances of getting into prep schools, but this is my last year applying and if I don’t get in to one of these schools then I will just be staying at my town’s public high school which isn’t a bad thing, I just really want to go to prep school.
I got a B- in English for quarter 1, but I switched classes half way through and I explained this to the admissions officers during my interviews. Should I let them know that for quarter 2 I am getting a 96.5?
I am a sophomore (looking to repeat the year) and have been playing varsity field hockey and varsity ice hockey for two years now, and JV lacrosse last spring.
I am the secretary of my class, and participate in Model UN
I didn’t do too well on my SSATS (overall 75%) and I won’t be able to retake them.
During my PEA interview, the admissions officer said he would advocate for me, but how will this really effect my chances of getting in?
This is my second year applying to Deerfield, will they take that into more consideration?
Lastly, I am applying for FA…which schools don’t take that into consideration too much for the applications?
Also I am straight A’s through eighth grade and my freshman year. I have a weighted GPA of 4.3, and take all honors classes and one AP class.
You song remarkably close to me. I am also applying to Exeter (and two other schools as a current 8th grader), my ssat’s are 75%, which is okay for the other schools, but not Exeter. I have been trying really hard to get in. I recommend you send a letter to the dean of admissions telling him your situation. Unfortunately Exeter has a very low acceptance rate for juniors to seniors, which I think you are???, but you can still apply for post grade. If you do apply for post grade, and you are not accepted this year, you might want to consider going to the summer school. Being a minority can also help your chances (NOT meant to be taken the wrong way).
@triton1605
The summer school is not worth it! I repeat, it is just an advertising scam! There are other worthwhile things to do with your summer. Do not choose to waste your time like that.
OP, I recommend you take the SSAT again if you can so you can send in the new scores if you are waitlisted. Your extracurriculars are good but depending on the year, they may not be competitive. Essays and teacher recs matter a lot more than extracurriculars though. When I was applying (4 years ago), a close friend of mine who was applying was competing nationally in math and was also a regionally reknown musician - they were waitlisted because of their essays. I know two ppl who got into their first choice schools off the waitlist but it is very rare. If this is the case for you, you will have to work hard to show them you’re still interested and your extracurricular/academic trajectory is going exponentially up.
To address your original question, as long as you are earning A’s in other subjects that B shouldn’t matter too much though it can’t hurt to send in your updated grades. 90% of students applying earn As though so it is not going to distinguish you from the rest of the pool if they learn that this one grade was an A not a B
How in the world could you know "they were rejected because of their essays "?
@6teenSearch that’s what she told me in retrospect after we got our results and etc.
I know some schools I didn’t get into b/c I winged the supplemental essay thinking it was a “safety” school then was accepted into more selective schools that I worked really hard on the essays for.
But you’re right, there’s no way to know for sure - sorry for making that assumption! It isn’t straightforward process like that and it was a mistake on my part
I know someone who goes to Pomfret, and she couldn’t be happier! your ECs look pretty good. Good luck!
Thanks everyone I got accepted to PEA and waitlisted to the rest
@justafish71400 Well, welcome! PM if you have any questions.
