still a junior going to a great high school (top 10 in NY)
GPA: 3.5 (90.5-91) unweighted
SAT's: 2250
SATII: bio-660 level II math - 720

freshman year: regular classes
sophmore: all honors
junior: honors precalc, AP Eng/U.S. History
senior (most probably): 4 AP's (calc, economics, psych, science), creative writing/shakespear (half year english courses), language

sports: football, track year round
volunteer hours: 100+ at a hospital

my essays are pretty much solid.. not based on just my opinion but others have said that as well and my teacher recommendations are great

so.. with all that info above "What Are My Chances?"
- UPenn (ultimate reach lol.. hey, you never know)
- Boston College
- Dartmouth University (NH)
- University of Michigan
- Duke University

Penn, Duke and Dartmouth are reaches for everybody. Probably good chances at UMich and BC, although BC has become very competitive to get into. UMich, I believe does not look at freshman grades.

-Penn and Duke won't seriously consider you with a 3.5 (this is my opinion, not trying to discourage you, just making sure you don't get disappointed)
-Michigan might be tough with a 3.5 OOS because they rely on numbers
-Great shot at Boston College, which is a fine school
-In at UNH Dartmouth

krazykool so you think that id have a pretty good shot at getting into dartmouth ? but yeah UPenn is my reach reach school but at the same time im also seriously considering both dartmouth and BC.. could you give me some more input on both of those schools ?

Do you mean Dartmouth College? I assumed you were talking about some university located in the same place, lol. If you mean the Ivy League college, then its admissions process is even more competitive than that of Penn, and would classify as a very high reach.

sorry i meant Dartmouth College, but are you sure ?? just from what ive heard Dartmouth College is many times referred to as the "forgotten Ivy" and the fact that many friends that I know with high school "stats" like mine have gotten into Dartmouth kind of gave me some hope lol. oh and these friends of mine also applied to UPenn but got rejected

you're confused. Although McLovin' somehow got in, Dartmouth is very hard to get into. my friend had top 5% of one of the best private schools in the country, 2200+ SAT, great recs and essays, varsity athlete, and legacy at dartmouth. A flawless app, right? I guess not, because he was deferred from dartmouth this fall.

yes i understand that Dartmouth is hard to get into, im not confused i never said it was easy thats why i asked what my chances were. Also, I actually do know friends that got into Dartmouth like i said with "stats" like mine so i dont know what happened with your friend.. but i feel for him

it could also be that maybe many kids in that %5 that were higher above him applied to Dartmouth as well because schools (especially small schools) arent gona accept a large number of kids from 1 school and this im sure about.

get that GPA up son! you have all of junior year to get it up. you also need to be more involved... if you do all those then you have a shot at all of those schools except UPenn but that will be a realistic reach.

haha yeah Newjack im working real hard this year.. so far I've been getting all A's so i have to keep that up. But when you say more involved what exactly do you mean? Do you mean more community service etc. ?
