Hello,
I am currently a freshman attending a community college in CA. Thanks to my high school AP credits I will be done with my General Education and minimum 60 units in one year instead of two so I applied for Fall 2016.
I’m an English major.
My High school GPA was: weighted-4.3/ unweighted-3.5
SAT-1700
ACT-23
My Fall semester GPA: 3.12
I am in my college’s scholar’s program and my main extracurricular activities are:
Shadow Day Mentor
Volunteers Unlimited Association Co-founder and president
National English Society Secretary
300 hours of volunteer service at a community center
Soup kitchen volunteer
Law firm office volunteer
ANCA Conference volunteer
My numbers are not great but I need to know if finishing my GEs in one year is appealing/impressive enough to boost my chances or will it actually lower my chances?
Priority for admission goes to jr. level transfers. Did you go through TAG?
Did you speak with an advisor at UCI regarding your AP credits and scores? Some schools will only give credit for (5) point scores and even then it is only for elective credit.
UC’s do not consider HS GPA or test scores for Transfer. What is important is your college GPA, personal statement and EC’s. Using TAG is your best chance for UCI. Your college GPA is lower than the TAG requirement (3.4) so I do not see you getting in unless you spend another year at your CC and TAG for Fall 2017. Did you check with UCI to make sure all your AP credit will be transferable?
I cannot do TAG in the one year span and I will be considered a junior at the end of one year since I will have 60 units. Thanks for the responses, any additional input will be greatly appreciated also.
