UC TRANSFER HEEELLPPP AND ADVICE PLEASE

I’m a community college student in my 2nd year of college with a 3.11 overall gpa. I’m hoping to transfer this fall to UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, or Santa Clara University as a biology major. I was denied TAG because I had too many english credits due to AP tests in high school and taking an english class in college. I work as a reading and writing tutor, and I have been volunteering at a hospital for 5 years now. I belong to Phi Theta. I’m a Girl Scout. I teach younger kids how to do certain art crafts, to coach group games, and tell moral stories. I also lead the prayer songs and chants in the end. I have a pretty strong Personal statement, which my peers and professors have commented as my strong voice being present. What are my chances of getting into any of my schools? Please help me :frowning:

Have you completed all your prerequisites yet?

Yes I have! All of my prereqs and IGETC is completed

You can’t TAG due to your GPA. Also, the deadline for Fall 2015 applications was last November.

Your GPA may be to low to be competitive. It is totally okay to spend some time bringing it up to a competitive level. However, if you don’t mind paying the application fee, there is no harm in trying.

I applied last november already! I’m waiting to hear word back from them, but I just want some feedback.

Are you sure you were declined TAG because of AP and English course?

I don’t remember there being a rule about too many English credits. A 3.11 GPA means you only qualified for UCSC, and their English requirement is:
“Fall 2014 first UC-E course; Spring 2015 second UC-E course. Students must demonstrate adequate preparation in the subject area of English composition.”
None of the other UCs have “adequate preparation” noted, so I guess it could be true. Either way, you have a slim chance since you finished all your prereqs, but GPA and prereqs matter much more for transfer students. ECs and the personal statement are usually just for tie breakers or to help a slightly low GPA. You might have to spend another year at your CC to boost your GPA or TAG.

So is there no chance for me to get into UC Davis or UCI or SCU? I’m a Bio major btw not an english major.

You’re on the low end GPA wise, and Biology being impacted in most places doesn’t help. Looking at the UC threads this year, it looks like some people got in with a 3.1 GPA for UCSC, so you still have a chance. Do you have any safeties?

UCSC was my safety school :frowning: I guess I always have SCU? I talked to a Davis counselor that was a guest at my college and he said I had a good chance getting in, but now I am really worried :#
