My chances of getting into William and Mary RD

I am a high school senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in NOVA. I am applying to William and Mary Regular Decision. My GPA is 4.1 weighted, 1530 SAT (superscore), 770 Bio SAT2, 750 Math SAT2. I have taken 7 APs. I have average EC’s and 1 leadership position. What are my chances of getting into William and Mary? Thank you.

I suggest you look specifically at the admissions data for TJ at the Career Center at your school. Your weighted GPA is low for the number of APs you have taken, but your school has very high expectations. It is hard to know how W&M assesses TJ students without that specific data, which is definitely available to you

From what I have seen that GPA looks rather low - but it depends school to school. With that GPA what % do you fall in your class - if you fall in the top 10% class rank that may be a reasonable number. If your like 17-20% class rank then your probably too low.

@prodesse @cbl1 Thank you for your replies. There’s no ranking at TJ so I have no idea where I am. Of those 7 APs, three are for this year, so hopefully my GPA could be improved. Thanks

None of the high schools in Fairfax County have ranking, so the admissions people will be familiar with that fact, and of course they will be familiar with TJ as the top science and technology magnet high school in the state, and one of the top in the country.

My daughter attended a different high school in Fairfax County, and their career center had information about how students from that high school had done in admissions with all the various schools they had applied to. I remember looking at the long list of students from my daughter’s school who had applied to William and Mary, listed anonymously from highest GPA to lowest, with test scores and number of APs also shown. It was quite clear from that list, that above a certain level of grades and scores, all the students were admitted, below a certain level all the students were rejected, and a rather small belt of overlaps. Athletes and legacies aren’t cut much slack in admissions at William and Mary.

@tjfairfax - Looking at history, you should be good. Few more weeks of wait. Best of luck.

@DSOF20192023 Thank you!

Hard to say, without the full picture, but Good Luck! It’s a great place.
