Well, after reading the thread about the top 10% in Texas automatically being accepted, I figured I had very little chance. Texas only admits 4.6% of their students OOS. Anyways, here are my credentials

ECs: Ice Hockey (captain, state finalists), Orchestra (two-time competition winner, president, 1st chair, awards within), Helped found a premier sports website on the web, write for the site currently (won an award with the site), Helped build and maintain Disc Golf course while a part of Frisbee Club, member of National Honors Society, Volunteer at local thrift shop, worked with local newspaper for 5 years (won awards during service). Candidate for class president (didn't win :-( )

WOW! you have a shot i think! I know someone who was accepted to UT from Washington with MUCH loser stats that yours, especially in the grades area. Good luck and HOOK 'EM HORNS! I hope you will enjoy the state of Texas as much as I do :)

That makes me feel so good! I've heard about a 10% policy, and tremendous advantage to Texas students. I basically had ruled out chances, but if you're telling the truth about the Washington student, then maybe I have a chance! I'd love to be part of the great Texas sports tradition, especially Texas football and Vince Young!

i'm not sure if this is true or not but regarding the top 10% rule i think UT is allowed to cap it at 60%. In other words once 60% of their students are admitted under the top 10% rule then they are allowed to stop admitting students under that rule. I think UT puts some of those remaining students in their other branches (UT arlington, tyler, permian base, san antonio...etc.) Again I'm not sure if this is right or not because I heard it from a friend. But anyways, good luck to you and once again, Hook 'em horns.

I remember students from last year talking about how they got put into a program where they went to one of those schools, then transferred after two years, so I believe you are right. Isn't that basically true for any school? You can go wherever you want for your first 2 years, then transfer?

i know UT Arlington has a CAP program where if you make a certain GPA (i think 3.0) you can transfer to UT Austin after your freshman year at UTA. My boyfriend's cousin just did that and she's going to start her sophomore year at UT Austin this year.
