My chances, please.

I posted this in the Chances section of the forum, but got no real response, so I thought I'd try here...

Applying to:

NYU- Steinhardt or CAS
Fairleigh Dickinson
Rutgers
Fordham
Drew

Major: Communication Studies (actually double major- Journalism- at NYU) for all except Drew, where I would be an English major

Homeschooled w/ GED Nov. 2004

Writing- 790
Soc. St- 800
Science- 570
Reading- 760
Math- 520
(Scores out of 800)

Didn’t take the SATs, don’t need to as I will have an AA degree from my CC, which is ranked highest in the state (NJ).

Enrolled in local CC Jan. 2005, will graduate May 2006.

Current GPA 3.595, due to the fact that I got a C on an online accelerated summer Bio class. Can we say bad idea? At least I passed...

My school also does not give any plusses or minuses. So even though I got an 87 in Psychology, I got the same grade as a person who barely pulled an 80, which does not make me happy.

Taking 22 credits next semester to graduate in three semesters.

Classes this semester:
Honors World Lit: 1650-Present
Statistics
Meteorology
History of Modern East Asia
Child Psychology
Religion and the Human Experience
Intro to Philosophy

Phi Theta Kappa (2-yer college honors society)
Deans List
Newspaper contributor (and possibly features editor next semester)
Student Aid in the History department
Stellar recommendations and essays

Interesting personal stuff:
Hand raised three orphaned kittens
Instead of working between the time I finished my high school work and started college, I took care of my ailing grandmother because my mother could not afford to (and didn’t want to) put her in a nursing home.

Also, I have over 15 years of dance behind me and I've recently taken up fencing.

Bump.

Do people dislike me, or something? I've started two topics and both times have been completely ignored.

Hi SydneyAnn... I'm sure it's not that anyone dislikes you... sometimes it takes a little while for the right person to read and respond to your question :-)

I don't really know if I'm necessarily the "right" person, but I do have A LOT of college books and have, at different times, been consumed by this website, so I'll take a stab at it:

NYU - Reach
Fairleigh Dickinson - Safety
Rutgers - Match (if it is NB campus, Safety if other campus)
Fordham - Match
Drew - Match

I'm sure others will respond soon... try and be patient :-)

For Rutgers, I'd say your chances are VERY good. I'm also pretty sure that with an AA degree, they'll take most, if not all of your credits. They have a system (ARTSYS, I think) where you can see what the Rutgers equivalents are to your CC classes (you might be able to get some of your major/ minor requirements out of the way.)

I agree with the poster above. NYU will be a reach, especially with your GPA. i know it sucks to hear but that's the way it is. NYU is actually over selective, it's not even so much that they're so competitive but really that SO many people apply.Good luck though and you will definitely get into at least one other school, i promise you.

I say match everywhere but NYU -- I think Steinhardt would be a little less of a reach than CAS, though. Good luck!

I didn't know NJ ranked its CCs. Do you know where I could find that information online? I don't go to my county's CC, so I'll be kind of annoyed if I'm paying extra to go out-of-county and my own is ranked higher :(

ETA: Don't take it personally if no one replies to your post...most of the people who reply to a chances post are just making an educated guess. It's not like they're the ones who decide whether or not you'll actually be admitted.

I'd say that Rutgers, Fairleigh Dickinson,Fordham, and Drew
are very good matches for you. However, if you get a 4.0 in your remaining classes, and take honors courses, NYU would also be a match.
