My Chances...This could be fun...

Okay this is my first post on here (!) so, .. yeah.
What are my chances at:
University of Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh Campus (dream school!)
Westminster College - PA
Allegheny College
Duquesne University
Baldwin-Wallace College
Mercyhurst College
St. Vincent College
Kent State University
and (maybe) Bucknell University

I'm a female from Western PA (as if you cant tell from my schools). I'm thinking of majoring in History and/or Communications, but this could change.

Weighted GPA: 3.72 (my school doesn't give us unwighted)
Rank: 33/ 207
SAT: 670/630 verbal, 470/490 Math, 570/600 Writing (8 on essay both times)
ACT: 24/25 Comp. I can't remember all the individual scores, but second time I took it, I got a 32 in English and a 19 in Math. I haven't taken the writing because of a fee-waiver issue.
AP: I plan on taking the US History and English in May, possibly Econ as well ( I should have taken the History one last year, but I have had financial issues.)

Senior Schedule
AP Economics
College Algebra ( Algebra 2 for upperclassmen)

Most of the chances to perform community service at my school involve money of some kind. My family is not in the best financial state. We lost our house in August. We currently have 5 people living in my uncle's one bedroom apartment. So, its not easy for me to buy a brand new toy for Toys for Tots, when you can't buy the toy.

As you can tell from my math scores, I have issues with math. Most of it has to do with my school's math program. They've had an integrated program for a few years. I took Integrated 1 in eighth grade, going up to Integrated three in 10th grade. In 9th and 10th grade, I had the worst teacher imaginable. He would be on his cell phone IN CLASS, miss random days for his construction business, check his Myspace IN CLASS, and missed three weeks of school to go Las Vegas. So, needless to say, I got straight Cs in Pre-Calculus in 11th. I have a math tutor that I go to once a week, and it has helped somewhat. I have 100% in my math right now. Other than that, I haven't had any major slip ups except for the third grading period of 10th grade. My English grade dropped to a C. I had problems with a group project and the group didn't give me credit, even though they used my video camera for the project. I brought my grade up to an A for the last grading period.

So...do I even have a chance? Especially at Pitt.

I can only speak for Mercyhurst and Westminster because I got in there, and your stats are soooo similar to mine. My weighted GPA was a little lower (3.5), as was my class rank (around 40 out of 200) and my SATs were a little higher in math - 540 - and we took very similar courses and have similar ECs.

So I'm going to say you're a GO for Mercyhurst because they accepted me into their Honors program and offered me about $20k in aid despite the fact that according to FAFSA I had $0 need.

I also was accepted to Westminster but not offered the Honors program (or very much financial aid, lol).

If you're planning on interviewing, you might want to change how you talk about your "math issues," because it comes across as kind of "victimized." You want to sound like less of a victim and more of a victor, so talk about how you went on to improve in math despite challenges with your teacher (talking more extensively about his bad habits than your good ones = "victim;" I know it's natural but just reverse that and you'll be fine).

All I can say is thank you, because the last place I posted said I would be better off going for a associate degree at a community college because I didn't have chance at a four year school.

That's hogwash.

You have a great record. Only thing is your funny-looking SAT scores (no offense!), but my SATs looked funny too (650 Writing, 700 Reading, 540 Math) and I got into every school to which I applied.

I was a double major history/journalism at history at Duquesne 30 years ago. The history program was excellent. I have heard good things about the history program at St. Vincent.

I will admit that I have never understood was Pitt is so popular ... I have a master's from Pitt.

If you want a career in journalism, Kent would be your best choice.

However a journalism degree wouldn't be a neccessity for a career in communications.
