My chances @ UCF//Honors College?!

Hi everyone!

I'm very interested in attending UCF, especially their Burnett Honors College. I'm a high school class of 2013. I am thinking of applying for their summer term, just to start ahead and meet new people...etc. I plan on retaking my SAT in June of this year (I'm a junior) Thank you so much! :)

UW GPA: 3.79 (might finish with a 3.77...)
W GPA: 4.6
Total of 5 AP classes, plus taking 1 exam by myself (so technically 6 total AP exams). AP SPAN(5) waiting to take the others.
Hispanic.
Bilingual.
SAT II Spanish/listening 730, relatively low for a native speaker. :/
SAT: 1740
R 560
W 590
M 590
NHS member
Spanish NHS member
Might be a French club member next year, was a member last year. (not sure if that counts.)
Volunteered at elem school aftercare + daycare since 9th grade.
500 service hours.

That's basically it, I know that I'm lacking many EC...but it's what it is.

Thanks!

BUMP! Please

The BHC is some what notorious for valuing scores over anything else (well, that’s true for most colleges in general, but still).

Your SAT scores are slightly below the average profile for the entire Freshman class of UCF for Fall 2011 (not the BHC). Your GPA is really high, assuming you adjusted the weighting correctly (the way UCF does it). Your SAT is severely lacking behind the average for the Honors College. On the Math + Reading, the average for the BHC was 1387, while yours is 1150…Is it possible? Yeah, but it’s highly unlikely. However, your scores + other attributes should be high enough to get you into UCF in general.

Thanks! How does UCF weight the GPA? Do you think that an SAT of 2000 would be enough for BHC?

To convert to your GPA, all regular classes are out of 4. Honors classes get .5 extra. AP and IB get 1 extra. (I’m pretty sure this is the conversion they use).

If you manage to increase your score to 2000, your chances will be higher. It should put you right around the average for the BHC.

I was accepted to the Burnett Honors College so I’ll list my stats to give you an idea of the people they’ll admit.
3.944 UW GPA
4.444 W GPA
12 AP classes (Bio: 2, Human Geo: 4, World History: 5, Psych: 5, English Lang: 5, US History: 4, expect to pass the remaining six)
Hispanic
National Hispanic Scholar (through PSAT)
2200 SAT
R 740
W 760
M 700
Member of Spanish honor society, English honor society, and science honor society
Used to be member of BETA club and Asian club
Around 200 community service hours

I was also told by a teacher that the high school you went to is taken into consideration, not that you can help it I would definitely focus on your scores over doing more ECs since you already have more than me and I was accepted. I think they also love seeing that you have “special talents” (I submitted a piece of artwork) because they’re trying to accept well rounded students. This said, they definitely weigh test scores/GPA more heavily. Good luck!

Thanks @ TheTicks.
@Demure: You had really good test scores & GPA!
Thanks for your input, I think the best I can do right now is improve my SAT. Too bad I don’t have any “special talent” :/

Thank you both :)

bumppppppp please.

I got accepted for this fall at BHC.
I had:
3.8 UW
4.6 Weighted
670 M
650 R
590 W
31 ACT Composite
I think that if you show you want to be a part of the Honors College, and you raise your scores just a bit, you have a good chance. :)

Thank you so much Nylad21 ! I might have a chance, I was starting to think I was just gonna end up at the regular UCF :)

Regular UCF isn’t so bad and, anyways, there are programs like LEAD and EXCEL that are LIKE honors but easier to get into (so I’ve heard). They probably have less benefits and so on too. Also, I doubt that special talents count for much, on the bright side.

To me, Demure’s stats are so good, they’re demoralizing.
