I'm open to any suggestions on how I should improve my resume for a good chance. I am strongly leaning towards UCLA because of its close proximity to my home in S. Cali and because its far that i dont have to technically live at home but close enough to get money/food from parents :) I know that I'm a sure for UCI (b/c ELC) and pretty solid for UCSD.

You’re not a URM, you’re Chinese. That puts you at a disadvantage sadly.

I think you have a good chance. My brother got accepted into UC Berkely and took almost exactly the same classes as you. Also, we’re chinese too! He received straight A’s throughout his whole high school career, so GPA was about 4.5 weighted and 4.0 unweighted. He didn’t do any sports and only did the minimum amount of community service.
I would say you have a very good chance, despite being chinese ethinicity.

The University of California system is barred by law (Proposition 209, 1996) from considering race or ethnicity in admissions decisions, so that will not be a factor at any of the UCs on your list.

You have a really good shot at all of those schools. Just nail your SAT’s and get a few leadership positions and you’ll probably get accepted into all of those schools. :)

What’s your intended major?

Anyways, in general:

Berkeley - match to low reach
Johns Hopkins - match to low reach
Northwestern - match to low reach

UCLA - match
UCSD - match
UCI - safety to match

acceptances and chances vary depending on your intended major at Berkeley.

i’m going for biochemistry for pre-med pathway and i heard that pre-med at ucla is pretty good/competitive. I dont know how it goes at berkeley, hopkins, northwestern, usc

If you intend to major in premed, then Hopkins is the best place to go. It has a very high acceptance rate to top med schools, including their own. Northwestern is probably next. Berkeley is a tad better than UCLA. There are many more Berkeley grads that get into UCSF than there are UCLA grads. And Berkeley grads count in huge number at UCLA med school too. There are more Berkeley grads than there are UCLA grads at the following med schools: Harvard, JHU, Yale, Stanford, Penn, Duke and UCSF. Thus based on statistics, Berkeley is superior to UCLA for med school acceptances. However,if you like UCLA more, go for it. I don’t think the gap between Berkeley and UCLA is that big anyway, especially for premed.

Being only an incoming junior, I’d say you have really good stats. Maybe you oughta apply for the Ivies as well. See how your SAT1s go and then try posting another chance thread next year. Also consider taking SAT2s. Solid applicant for the UCs already.

Now chance “me” back, john:
