I also wrote an essay (well written) about my struggles between american and home cultures. It has caused my parents to say no to college. I fought for me to apply (they said college would make me loose my identity and heritage) after a long battle I've stood up and I'm trying to better myself and make my American dream come true.
what are my chances at university of minnesota, thanks in advance

Anyone???

What’s your thoughts!

???

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

UMinnesota 25th/75th Percentile Scores
ACT Composite: 24 / 29
ACT English: 23 / 30
ACT Math: 24 / 30

Your ACT is way too low. Your GPA is also low. Maybe if you’re instate and write a killer essay with great recommendations you may have a slight chance. URM may also help as you’re black. However your academics are not impressive.

Perhaps you want to retake standardized tests and work really hard at them this time, because an ACT of 16 is like a 1050/2400 on an SAT, way below average. Perhaps even look at some community college options.

thanks!
i just got back my recent ACTs from Dec 12 they were uploaded online…new score is 21.
also my essay was well written and my junior year GPA was 3.67 but my essay explains the troubles i went through senior year and how i came over them. I had two teacher retrogradations. Do you think that they will see my efforts the first three years and that i had issues the last year? My grades were typically A’s and B’s before my last year…also does first generation and minority apply to decisions? I’ve seen people as low as a 17 on the ACT that were admitted and were minorities…according to stats the college wants a certain percent of minorities

sorry *recommendations !

yes im instate!

From 16-21 is a vast improvement. Now you have a much higher chance but still a bit low. As long as colleges see an upward trend you should have a much better chance, and URM will definitely help. Additionally if your recs are good and your counselor explains your GPA, you should have an even better chance. Good luck!

Thank you !
