My chances?

Okay, So I live in San Francisco and is Indian. I go to one of the best private schools in SF and was looking to go to Groton, Deerfield and NMH. My grades are A's and B's and my SSAT score is 1900. I play Soccer and Lacrosse. I participate in many extra-curricular activities such as trumpet, speech and debate, volunteering at organizations and being Secretary/Treasurer in the Student Council. The admissions directors at all of these schools really like me. I'm just really worried for March 10th? Your thoughts on my chances? Thanks!

Your ssat’s were in about the 40’s is I am not mistaken… And you have about a 3.5 GPA i think you have a decent shot at NMH and groton but deerfield is a longggg shottttt

Actually, a 1900 is like in the 20’s because my first SSAT was a 1923 and that was a 31%ile… I retook it with virtually no studying (but way more confidence) and scored a 2058 which was a 62%ile

ok so I think you have a good shot at NMH… a decent shot at groton and a longg shottt at deerfield

Thank you so much! NMH is by far my first choice i love it! I really want to get in!

I won’t comment on chances but I wonder if those schools are a match with that ssat. It seems like your current school is providing a challenge. Are you just looking for something different? Do you generally have trouble with standardized tests?

neatoburrito: I have always struggled with standardized tests. I go to a really good private school that isn’t a challenge. I get a lot of A’s and B+'s. My high school counselor has spoken to the boarding schools and they understand why I don’t do good on standardized tests.

They understand why you did not do well you mean. Though your score is low, I have never met you so cannot say that you would not bring something to these schools. It really depends on whether the schools think your other skills outweigh the score. If so, you have a very good chance at any school really. How involved are you in your extra-curricular activities?

very involved.

Then I suggest you go for it! Do keep in mind though that deerfield has about a 16% acceptance rate, which is a HUGE challenge for anyone, even the most qualified aplicants!
