My Chances?

<p>I know my chances aren't amazing, but I would like to hear some other opinions. I'm going to be a senior this year and plan on applying soon. </p>

<p>Before look at my GPA let it be known that I attend a Jesuit High School, which is a college prep school. Honors and AP classes are not handed out like they are at public schools.</p>

<p>Freshman Year:

S2: 3.0</p>

<p>Sophomore Year:
S1: 3.4
S2: 3.4</p>

<p>Junior Year:

I am a first generation Hispanic (Cuban), my father was born in Cuba, moved here at age 3, and did attend college. My mother is American with Spanish roots and also attended college. My Brother is currently a Freshman at FSU.</p>

<p>Are you instate or out of state? and what do mean by first generation? In reference to attending college, first generation means that your parents did not earn a bachelors degree at an accredited university. You mentioned that both parents attended college, which is what confused me in regards to you being first generation. Based off of your GPA and rigor of your academia, I can say you are definitely below the middle range of accepted applicants, for fall. Your test scores look decent but I would definitely encourage you to retest as your test scores may make or break you admission into FSU. Your brother is attending FSU, that is a plus. My advice, apply first round and retest. The worst they can do is defer you, in which case you will have to PROVE to FSU how much you want to go there by making GREAT grades and IMPROVING on your test scores. Also, consider applying for summer after talking with others and getting their opinion as well. Summer applicants are accepted with lower mid-range standards than the fall applicants.</p>

<p>Your definitely a contender for Summer admission. However, I’m coming from the POV of a 2010 applicant. I would suggest discussing this with a few other ppl who might know more. Im sure some other members will chime in.</p>

<p>I’m going to talk to my counselor, but I’m most likely going to apply as soon as I can for summer enrollment.</p>

<p>From my experience I would think that you would have a pretty good chance of getting in. I had a 3.6 GPA and an ACT of 27. I did get a 36 on my reading and a 34 on math but a low science score (just not my thing). So I don’t know if that helped or not, but I was accepted to both FSU and UF back in 2007 and then as a transfer in 2009. FSU really isn’t that difficult to get into based on my personal experiences with friends etc. </p>

<p>I would definitely suggest that you take the ACT as many times as possible before the application deadline to get your scores up. Also, if I were you I would work my butt off this fall (4.0) and then apply after this terms grades have been posted to give your GPA a boost. Jan 18, would be the deadline for a March decision.</p>
