My chances

Hey guys. I’m getting ready to apply to colleges now and I would like your thoughts on my chances of getting accpeted into CSUs. My SAT score is 1140/1600 and my gpa is 2.7 what csus would most likely accept me? Thanks

CSU’s admit by major and eligibility index. (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR). Your Eligibility index is 3300.

  1. What is your intended major?
  2. What is or are your local CSU's? You get priority for your local CSU and usually get an acceptance with a lower EI.

See link: http://www.calstate.edu/sas/onestopkiosk/documents/CSULocalAdmission-ServiceAreas.pdf

SJSU is the only CSU that posts their EI thresholds by major. Here is the link and you would qualify for many of their majors: http://www.sjsu.edu/admissions/impaction/impactionresultsfreshmen/index.html

I would look at the CSU impacted matrix and apply to any CSU and major that is not impacted such as Channel Islands, East Bay, Stanislaus, Dominguez Hills, Bakersfield.

https://www.calstate.edu/sas/documents/ImpactedProgramsMatrix.pdf

Several CSU’s such as Sonoma, Fresno, Monterey Bay, San Francisco, San Marcos could be possible if you select a non-impacted major.

You do have many choices so Good Luck.

"My SAT score is 1140/1600 and my gpa is 2.7 "

Wow…that is a bit bad…maybe ASU?.

Seriously though you need to try harder on the SAT to make up for your gpa, otherwise prob CC.

Thanks gumbymom. To answer your question my intended major is English and my local CSU is LA.

You should a good chance at CSULA along with several of the CSU’s mentioned in my first post.

I know for sure I’m a local to CSULA, but I’m reading that my district is local to CSUN as well. From previous knowledge I thought I could only be local to one Cal State. Since my district (GUSD) is local to CSUN, does that mean I’m a local to both Cal States?

You can only be local to one CSU in the LA area based on the service area link which would be CSUN. For CSULA, you would have to be within the listed boundaries:

All high schools located East to 605 freeway and the Los Angeles County Line, West to 405 freeway, South to Highway 42 (Firestone Blvd.), and North to LA County Line.

Non-impacted campuses such as Channel Islands, East Bay, Dominguez Hills and Bakersfield have no boundary limitations so you can be considered local for these campuses.

Thanks. I have another question. In the a-g requirements, it says that I have to do 2 years of laboratory science. I took physics in 9th grade, bio 10th grade, and chem 11th grade. However, I also had AP physics in 11th grade, and got a D first semester and dropped it 2nd sem. Since I already took 2 years of lab science before that, I would still be able to apply correct?

Forgot to mention this, I passed physics, bio, and chem

You meet the a-g course requirements for lab science (you actually have 3 years), but since you have a D on your transcript this will be included in your UC/CSU GPA calculation unless you repeated that semester. A D will impact your GPA and chances. CSU’s are more forgiving than UC’s when it comes to D’s.
