My class ranked dropped 18 spots!!!! What have I done?!

I went to the counselor's this afternoon with some friends to get my class rank and found that I had dropped from #60 to #78 (out of about 400) -- and that's how I'm graduating. Great. We had a lot of new students I think (so the counselor said) and people "make up failed classes" this semester. But I'm worried; my GPA really dropped this semester. I think it was a 3.33 UW 3.83 W for this semester, when my average WAS 3.69 UW and 3.8W; as you can see, my grades in advanced placement classes actually were good (only AP classes get weighted). GPA for class rank is NOT weighted -- so a lot of people who don't take any advanced classes and take gym instead are ahead of me.

The counselor (who is not my usual counselor but was the one who told me my rank) laughed really smugly, and said in a snooty voice "Oh yeah, my step-daughter who just transferred is higher in class rank." My FRIENDS were even angry when she left because she was really rude.

So, yeah, now I'm angry and mad at myself. We got our report cards and my grades were:
AP European History: 83 (B)
AP Biology: 81 (B-)
French V: 94 (A) Not an AP class, but an AP level; the only reason it's not AP is because only 8 people are in the class (for French IV and V) and you need at least 15 to be declared AP -- I am taking the AP exam
Advanced Alg + Trig: 73 (C-)
AP Lit/Comp: 96 (A)
American Government (A)

I know my math grade is autrocious but I worked with TWO tutors this semester and this is all I could pull -- honestly.

Soooo....my question is:

Have I hurt myself very badly?
I'm applying to UNC (OOS), Cornell, NYU, Boston U, Emerson, Tulane, WashU in St. Louis, Georgia Tech. I've already been accepted to U of Georgia and U of Cincinnatti.

UNC doesn't require a mid-year report unless requested (I'm early app) so it shouldn't hurt me there.

Opinions?

I felt like crying when I saw my report card, even though I knew what I was receiving. Crying won't help, I know, but I just had this horrible sinking feeling.

Thanks guys.

My rank will probably drop too.... but hey.. there is nothing you can do now... just hope for the best... after your first year in college you won't even remember this.... just makre sure you learn from it and dont do it again in the future!

hey man. its really okay. Don't worry about it. As many others have said, a lot of schools this year are tossups. Kids with great grades get rejected from great schools and kids with poor grades get in. Just work hard, and if Math is not in your forte, well at least you know what you don't wanna major in. Washu, Cornell, UNC, Georgia Tech were all a bit of a reach BEFORE your poor grades, so its okay. Just keep working hard, and if they request a mid year report, just keep updating them with grades now.

u should petition to abolish the class rank. haha
my school eliminated it decades ago.

Obviously it would be a lot easier to predict if you had given your SAT scores, but using grades I will tell you where analyzing just those may put you.
I used to go to HS in Georgia (I'm assuming that's where you're coming from) and I would say you still have a good shot at Georgia Tech in state...although the math grade may concern them a little. UNC I would say very little chance, same for Cornell, NYU, and WashU. You could possibly pull of Boston U or Tulane, but again, that all depends on SAT scores and extracurriculars, ect.

If I were to put a percentage to your chances I would say:
UNC = 1%
WashU = 3%
Cornell = 5%
NYU = 10%
Boston U = 50%
Tulane = 60%
Georgia Tech = 70%

Also, depending on the major you would be applying for, that could also affect your chances at some of these schools. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies, guys, I appreciate it. I took a look at my old transcript, and I haven't really fallen as much as I thought -- I thought I was 60, but I was 63. So I went from 63/375 to 78/390. Same basic percent.

My stats, if you're interested:

SAT: 600M 760V 780W (11 essay)
SAT II: 750 French w/ Listening 710 Lit
GPA: 3.65 UW 3.85 W (weighted ONLY for APs)
I'm taking 3 AP classes this year (and technically, French is an AP class but we don't have enough people in it to call it AP. But I'm taking the exam, etc.)

Thanks!

Your SAT score is pretty good for most of the schools you are applying too... I'd say, don't worry about it too much.

UNC:Match (because of your SAT score, with Math & Verbal alone, you are above 75th percentile.)
Cornell: Reach
Boston College: Match
NYU:Match
Georgia Tech: Match (but would actually advise going to Georgia Tech, because you are stronger in Verbal than Math.)
Wash U:Reach
Tulane:Match
Emerson:Safety

Hope this helps. :)
