My college chances.. am I kidding myself? - Will chance back

GPA- My school doesn't give it to us on a 4.0 scale but they say it's 96.11 weighted (I know, not that good, but I have a huge upward trend (92 fresh/soph then 104 junior year)) (I go to a very competitive public school in central texas)

Rank- school doesn't rank beyond top 10% which I am not in due to fresh/soph grades :/

SAT I- 1830 for now but I plan to raise it to around 2000-2100

ACT- will take this fall (hopefully will get around a 29)

SAT II- Not sure if I need to take them, but I could do decently on a few if it would help my app.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read all of this.. I am not going to $@#& around senior year, I'm going to treat it like a year of college and hopefully get all A's. I'm going to definitely start getting my act together if I ever want to achieve my dream of being a doctor.

I am planning to apply to - (please say reach/match/safety)

UT Austin College of Natural Sciences
UT San Antonio
Texas A&M

sorry I just realized how long this is… haha thanks to anyone who gives their input :)

For the schools you listed, your SAT and projected ACT scores will be a match and suffice. There’s this website I use for really useful info/statistics of colleges. Google “(name of college) sat scores” and click on one of the first few links that’s from collegeapps.about.com. Below are the links for the three colleges you listed; check them out:

• University of Texas at Austin
[University of Texas Profile - SAT Scores and Admissions Data for the University of Texas at Austin](UT Austin: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA)

• University of Texas at San Antonio
[University of Texas at San Antonio profile - UTSA - SAT Scores and Admissions Data for UTSA, the University of Texas at San Antonio](University of Texas at San Antonio; Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores)

• Texas A&M University
[Texas A&M Profile - SAT Scores and Admissions Data for Texas A&M](Texas A&M Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores)

As for rankings:

 • University of Texas at Austin: match
 • University of Texas at San Antonio: safety
 • Texas A&M University: match

To be honest, you probably could aim a little bit higher than the three schools you listed. What do you want to major/minor in?

Thanks for the reply @tryandsucceed, I am planning on majoring in something like biochem/math/physics/biomedical engineering… something that would appeal to medical schools… I am just hoping that UT Austin will accept me, my fresh/soph grades were pretty bad (92 average weighted) which doesn’t rank me very well compared to the other kids at my competitive high school. I just don’t want to get CAPPed(have to spend a year at UT san antonio, then transfer into UT A) :/… All I want to do right now is get into UT A right away, bust my *** and get a 3.6+, then get into med school  gonna be tough but I want a fresh start… Hopefully my tough senior year will prepare me well

I think UT Austin will accept you. Their 25th percentile for SAT scores is 1630 and their 75th percentile is 2010. One of UT Austin’s strength is engineering, if you decide to play up on that.

UT Austin- Match
UT San Antonio- Match
Texas A&M- Match

Honetly, I think you should consider applying to a few more schools. Your SAT is decent and if you take SAT II, you definitely have chances at other schools outside of Texas  Best of luck!

[Chance me back?](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1167774-chance-top-schools-will-chance-back.html)

honestly i think you’ll get in to all the schools you’re applying to…so bsaically all low matches/safeties.

maybe some other public schools like UVA or UNC you could look into? or some LACS?
goodd luck!

chance back?

UT-Austin sounds like a match to me. UT San Antonio for sure. I’m not too sure about Texas A&M because I’m not that familiar with it though.

Why not look at some private schools in your area (Baylor, Rice)? Baylor has a nice premed program I’ve heard.

Chance me back?

You definitely have a more than good shot at those schools! Here’s what I thinl :

UT Austin- Match
UT San Antonio- Match
Texas A&M- DEfinite Match

why not apply to more schools?? You can definitley aim higher! Maybe take the ACT?

Good luck!!

Chance me back? :] Appreciate it!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1167065-chances-will-chance-back-promise.html</a></p>

thanks guys! I may apply to Baylor, too :)

I am basically looking for a school that will -

-Be possible to get a 3.5+ in a science major with a decent amount of work
-Prepare me for the MCAT
-Look like a respectable enough college to get accepted into med school
-have a good premed program
-preferably be in Texas (OOS schools will be WAY more expensive)

I am thinking that UTSA will give me some scholarships because I am so overqualified for it, but I also think that it isn’t a respectable enough uni in med school’s eyes. what do you think?

from my limited amount of knowledge in Texas academia, i’d say UTSA isn’t viewed as top notch. Med school is competitive, so going to a good school for undergrad can never be a bad thing. UT-A, Rice or Baylor are among the best in Texas but why stay in state? Nose around for financial aid and scholarships in other schools too. I live in Cali but financial aid and scholarships are impossible around here (education is the first thing to go in a budget cut) so I’m looking out of state now.

There’s a ton out there.

@gerian- any suggestions for me? considering my caliber of a student and my interest in a pre-med track…
