Ok so I am graduating next year and I am expecting to have a 3.3 GPA(I didn’t really take my freshman and Sophomore year seriously) but I have a 35 on my ACT. I live in NC and want to get into UNC Kenan-Flagler or NC State Engineering. What are my chances?
Your GPA is gonna hurt you. Also, the engineering school is more selective so that will also lower your chance. However, your high ACT score is gonna act as a safety cushion for your low GPA. Now, it all comes down to your ec’s, AP courses, and essays.
You have a big mismatch ACT vs GPA, which is a red flag. You need to explain it but I still think you have a great shot at an engineering program as long as those lower grades were in English and the social sciences.
Thank you so much for your help guys
Just make sure you have a well balanced list of colleges to apply to. You need some strong matches/safeties that you would be happy attending. Also, be very clear about how much your family is willing to pay per year prior to applying anywhere!
Low GPA and high SAT/ACT is a red flag for colleges, as they see it as you not trying in school even though being intelligent, which is not what they want.
