So I asked my counselor today questions concerning Early Action and her role in it.
Specifically, I asked her whether or not she knows when to send my senior quarter grades to Princeton after I send my early app and she said that she doesn't know and that she had never sent out quarter grades. (I'm a Junior btw).

Aren't counselors supposed to be sending our senior first quarter grades to our early action colleges? Mine apparently doesn't know When or What or How to send info to the colleges I am applying early.

PLEASE HELP!

Also...what else does my counselor have to do during my college application process (specifically early action) besides grade sending? She doesn't seem to know......

For EA, only your grades from Frosh, Soph, and Junior years are considered. Your counselor is right.

Ok…so our EA never sees our senior year grades?

Well, not in their decision process, no. But once you’re accepted (or deferred), you’re going to have to send your midyear report, so you can’t slack off first semester, or you could risk getting an acceptance rescinded. But your counselor is right in that first quarter/semester grades are not considered for Early Action.

I know my school sends out Qtr 1 grades as soon as they become available. Whether they make it in time for EA decisions, I’m not sure.

The general rule with EA/ED, which I’ve seen posted on many schools’ websites, although it may not be universal, is that only your work through junior year is considered. Princeton might have a different policy, but that would definitely be an exception.

At my high school, our counselors never sent out transcripts for us. We had to request & pay for them at the school registrar.

I don’t think first quarter/semester grades are required because it isn’t available for many applicants in time. However, if your grades for a quarter or semester are ready it’s a good idea to send them…they will be sent with the midyear report anyway. (Unless, of course, they aren’t great:P )

It’s bad if you don’t send out first quarter grades when they’re available; more good grades, alongside a strong academic record from 10th-11th, can only help you. Oftentimes, you will be deferred if you don’t have strong senior grades to add to your application, unless your GPA (not including 9th grade) is strong enough on its own. I suggest sending them in… they can only help.
