I thought USC needed official transcript postmarked Dec 1.

you are correct. And you also should resubmit one after you receive first semester grades of senior year.

You are correct, USC needs your official transcripts. Take these forms to your counselor: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1011/Form3_2010.pdf http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1011/Form7_2010.pdf
The instructions are to send an official transcript with your Form 3. If you are unable to obtain an official transcript in time to send with Form 3, you can send it in without the transcript, and then use Form 7 to have the official transcript sent as soon as possible.

Your counselor may be confusing USC with the UC system which does not require a transcript until you are accepted and graduate from high school. USC is a private university not affiliated with the UC system in any way.

Good luck!

Thanks. Also, can it be mailed with the counselor report?

Yes, mailing an official transcript with the counselor report is the preferred method.

Thanks for all that info alamemom! I’ve never seen Form 3 before…is that required if I am applying online?

In this case I wouldn’t include your official transcript with your counselor’s rec. Since his/her information is so wrong I wouldn’t trust the counselor to do it correctly.

(I speak knowing that my oldest two had the same counselor who ruined their college application process. Just because one is a counselor doesn’t make you a good counselor.)

A paper Form 3 is probably not necessary when you are applying online - just use Form 7. And ellebud brings up a great point! Take Form 7 to your registrar yourself to be sure it gets sent.

Thanks for all the pointers! For the part that asks

This transcript includes the following:
_ Grades 9-12, including verification of graduation
_ Other: (List years attended)

Which one do I select?

You would select “Other” and put Grades 9 - 11 (assuming you attended that high school for those grades and are currently a senior). After you are accepted by USC and graduate, you will request another transcript including grades 9 - 12 and verification of graduation be sent.

You are so helpful alamemom! Thank you so much!

It sounds like the counselor might have mixed up USC with UCs, the s in a different place, that is all :D. The UCs don’t need transcript until one is admitted.

^^

This is correct regarding both USC AND UC. Note that the UC system application requires the student to list grades in all classes taken 9-11 to date, so the applicant will either want to reference an unofficial copy of their transcript to get it correct, or else dig for those semester report cards.
