My daughter was able to raise her ACT to 30....

My daughter saw her ACT scores today (Writing score not available yet) and she was happy to raise the composite to 30. She was HOPING for that so she would be eligible for the:

IU Distinction - $36,000 ($9,000 per year)
The IU Distinction Scholarship is awarded to the best and brightest out-of-state students who meet each of the following criteria:
Out-of-state student (domestic and international)
Minimum SAT score of 1330 or minimum ACT score of 30
Minimum GPA of 3.80 on a 4.0 scale

She directed ACT to send the scores to IU-B as soon as the Writing component is back. Should she notify IU via phone to let them know her score went from 28 to 30? I just wouldn't want her to miss out on a potential scholarship if they don't see it. In fact, if she DOESN'T get it, there will be no way we can afford for her to attend. Still not even sure if we can, otherwise. But, this scholarship would sure help!

Thanks!

I’m wondering the same thing.

Making a phone call can never hurt. But I predict this is what they will tell you, “If when we receive the scores there is enough funding left, her scholarship will get bumped up.”

I would guess that it’s still early enough so that there is scholarship money left. She probably will get the 9k/yr.

I would say YES…call…be proactive. Has she already been accepted? If so…did she get any notice that she would be eligible for Selective Scholarships? If not…this call and notification MIGHT nudge that into happening (I don’t know their exact paramenters), and/or eligibility to Hutton Honors (don’t know to what “school” she’s applying either). But, if THOSE things happen because of the change…there CAN be more money at both. If she’s instate…those can go a long way toward COA. You don’t want them to be processing your application and skip these points. Though, they might do that anyway. Probably hard to stop that train if it’s already in motion. But…I know that I would call or at least e-mail. Probably call.

Congratulations to her.

I suggest speaking or emailing directly with her admissions officer - not just calling the office. My son emailed his admissions officer and she forwarded the email to the scholarship office for him - they responded very quickly.

Definitely send the score to IU and make a call. They’re usually very helpful over the phone and willing to help! And this increased score will definitely qualify her for the scholarship, since it’s automatic. Good luck!

Thank you for your kind words. Since I first posted on Nov.10, she’s been admitted and will receive the IU Distinction Scholarship of $9,000 a year. She just got the “You’re In!” envelope in the mail today. They emailed her awhile back with the news. We sent in her housing deposit yesterday. Now she’s waiting for an invitation to Hutton Honors College, as well as SSA. Maybe if she doesn’t hear back about those within the next few days, we’ll give them a call.

That said, even though IU is her first choice, we’ll wait to hear back from the other 10 schools she’s applying to. Unfortunately, for all but one, that won’t be until April.

you can send the score to the school by Jan 15th or something like that and you can get the distiction scholarship. my dad asked. too bad i cant because the next testing date isnt until febuary and i got a 29 the last time which is only one point away.

There’s an ACT test this coming Saturday, the 12th. Often you can just show up and pay the late fee if they have space. This is what my daughter did the first test she took. It was held at her school and she didn’t sign up online. You might as well give it a try, especially if it means bringing your score up to 30, providing there’s still money in the scholarship fund. My daughter was able to raise hers from a 28 to a 30. You can do it! :)
