My dim medical future

Hello everyone who takes time out of their busy day to look at this bleak little post on CC, I want to thank you all for your time and am in a bit of a dilemma here. Before this last semester I had a 4.0 science GPA (which means relatively little as of now), however, I recently received a C in Organic I and a C in General Biology I. I, in a somewhat rash decision, chose to take two of the most challenging classes my school offered in one semester. And yes, although this may not matter much, General Biology I is considered one of the most challenging courses in the biology curriculum in my school. I am choosing to go on and take Organic II and General Biology II and am certain I will make higher grades in both, seeing that I had a solid B going into the final for Organic and would have had an A; unfortunately, the exams for two of the most challenging classes were 30 minutes apart, not to mention Econometrics exam, Intermediate Microeconomics exam, and another exam, all of which had to be prepared for. I am not making any excuses, however, and am wondering if I should retake those two courses? Also would it effect my medical school acceptance if I have another C in an economics course? Guessing not, but am not very certain.

Sorry, overconfidence can kill so change that “certain I will make higher grades in both” into “certain that I have the ability to get better grades in both and will do everything in my power to achieve them” haha

You have to figure out the real reason for “C”. Being busy is not the real reason as everybody is busy. Most are taking at least 2 very challenging science classes in each sememster. If you do not, you will never know how you can cope in Med. School. It will be much more busy there.
I do not know anything about re-taking classes, you have to wait for somebody else answering this question. However, if you do not think about different approach to studying since your current one did not work, how retaking classes will produce different results? I would advise to focus on that and see how you will do next semester and then if different approach works, research about re-taking/not re-taking classes. Your schedule did not look busier than others’.

The real reason for the C was not studying the material after lectures or before lectures. I would try to do the usual college kid “cramming” before every test. This was the result of the C. Assuming I change that next semester, read and study before every lecture and after and that I get better grades what effect would this have on my overall chances?

^Good analysis! That could be it. “I would try to do the usual college kid “cramming” before every test” not so usual for pre-meds. Well, maybe some geniuses do that. Ordinary straight A people study a lot. As an example, my D, studied for about 30 hrs for each Orgo exam… after she studied a lot every day. But again, you would have lots of easy subjets, so you should be able to focus more on difficult ones.

Normally, you can only retake courses in which you received a D or F. A C is an acceptable passing grade so you have completed the courses and are not really eligible to take them again. Even if you could repeat the courses and get a better grade it will not help you much for medical school admission since when MCAAS computes your GPA for medical schools you are applying to it will include the the C grades you initially received.
