my dream school?

I have a 2.8 GPA and got a 1580 on my SAT (Math 480 Reading 550 Writing 550) and a 22 on my ACT. I am a fairly average student but because of it, it limits where I can get in. Obviously, my dream is not to go to an Ivy. I am looking for the best place for me. I'm from Chicago and I love it so I've been looking into schools like Loyola and DePaul but I'm not sure. I want someplace that's in a city or near a city. I love the idea of a woman's college but only if it's the right environment. I'm a liberal lesbian so I want some place that is open minded and a little bit more liberal.

Some of the schools I've been looking at:
Chatham University
Simmons College
Prescott College
Northern Arizona University
Wesleyan College

Oh, and I want to be a teacher.
If you can give me some ideas or tell me what you know about these schools, that would be great. Thanks.

I’m from Arizona originally, so I know that NAU has a very good reputation when it comes to its education department. They would be a good option to consider. My friends from high school who go there really enjoy it, and Flagstaff is a neat little town.

Simmons is in a cool part of Boston with public transportation nearby. I’ve heard good things about the school.

I’m not really sure about any of the others you mentioned.

Yeah, I’m currently living in Phoenix and I’ve heard great things about NAU. I’m just not sure how I feel about state schools.

SuperMatch suggests Guilford in North Carolina, Roosevelt in Chicago, Suffolk in Boston, maybe Alverno in Milwaukee.

I would definitely look at Simmons. It’s right on the Fenway in Boston and near several other colleges. I’d imagine their education department is quite good.

Apply to Mills College!! You’ll be moving out to the incredibly lesbian-friendly and diverse city of Oakland, CA (there are over 3,000 lesbian couples living together in the East Bay) to go to school with some brainy and friendly folks. They’ll consider more than just your grades and are known for giving good financial aid to first-year students.

Hollins University here in Virginia is liberal and has a huge LBGT crowd. I visited and everyone was very nice. The campus is pretty also and they are well known for their education and english department.

I’d also suggest Mills. Very liberal environment, located in Oakland, as Avek216 said, and right next to Berkeley and San Francisco.

I just applied and they worked with me during the process, though my stats are below their averages. They were unsure about my application, but contacted me for additional grades and another rec letter. I managed to get in with 3.3 W/3.0 UW, 1800 SAT and some strong rec letters and essays. I had a friend with stats very similar to yours who applied last year and also got in after providing some additional information.
