I like to apply early decision to Dartmouth, but I am not sure If i have a reasonable chance of geting accpeted since i am a foreign and i dont have much EC.

several local awards and something like AIME ect..

Any advice is appreciated

As a foreign student please remember that your ability to pay is going to be a factor in the admissions process because Dartmouth is not need blind to international students. So if money is not an issue (you can fully pay) then you should throw your hat into the ED ring as you have nothing to lose.

Your SAT is a ltittle below average. You don't have many ECs. Unless you have something important to offer which you haven't listed, I don't think your chances are very high ED or RD.

Thanks for your advice guys. ya I am not sure, I think i might change my mind about ED, I may be give RD a try later. I know perfectly well that my SAT score will be pretty average. But I cant do anything about it, its very hard for people who only have few years of English education to score 750-800 on verbal section. I hope my high TOFEL score will compensate partially for my verbal section. Also, what are chances that Dartmounth will offer a foregin student needed based aid if he/she got accepted?

Don't worry, even though Dartmouth is need blind in the admissions process, if you are admitted as an international student, Dartmouth will meet 100% of your demonstrated need (the school determines your need)

They will meet at least 100% of your need, but do expect your parents to have to tighten their belts a bit (figuratively, not literally).

Thanks for your replies, i had not visited this forum for a while. Ok so basicly if I got admitted, Dartmouth will meet 100% of my need. But will they treat me (Aids) equally? In other word, If someone with a U.S citizenship has smiliar fiancial situation as I do, will I get similar amount of aid? or less?

Dartmouth is need blind for U.S. citizens so for a student applying who is a citizen or permanent resident their financial need is not a factor in the admissions process.

I think you misundertood my post. I meant if a native and a foreign both got accepted, will they get similiar amount of aids assuming they have same fiancial situation.

There are so many factors that go into calculating financial aid while some students may have similar finanical situations, no two students will have the exact financial situation. All in all whether you are an international student or U.S. citizen, the school will meet 100% of what they believe is your demonstrated need.

The school states:

Does Dartmouth College offer financial aid for international students? If so, will I receive full financial aid to meet my full need if I am accepted to Dartmouth?

Yes, Dartmouth does offer full financial aid to meet full demonstrated need (as determined by Dartmouth's Financial Aid Office) of accepted international students. Aid "packages" often have three components: grant, loan and work study.

Is Dartmouth need-blind in its admissions decisions for foreign nationals, or is financial need one of the factors that must be considered in the admissions review?
<a href="http://www.dartmouth.edu/apply/admissions/international/faq.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.dartmouth.edu/apply/admissions/international/faq.html</a>
Dartmouth College does not have enough financial aid for every talented and needy foreign applicant. Some difficult decisions must be made at the end of the international review dictated, in part, by the limited budget for foreign nationals. Apply for financial aid if you anticipate the need for it during any point in your time at Dartmouth, but do not apply for Dartmouth aid if your family has the resources to pay for all four years of undergraduate education. Canadian citizens, Mexican citizens, U.S. Permanent Residents, and U.S. citizens living overseas are reviewed without the constraints of a limited financial aid budget. Please remember that once you are admitted as a non-financial aid candidate, you will not be eligible for financial aid at any point in your Dartmouth career.

I remenber dartmouth's students received average around $25000 from school each year?? does it mean most students get ~25000 grant OR grant+loan+work study? Also my family income is fairly low and the fiancial aid calculator on Dartmouth's web page predicts my family needs to contribute around 8000 dollars a year. I want to know that is there a possibility that the actual aid be must lower the this number? Also if the calculator says the family need to contribute a certain amount, does it mean the school will provide "grant" for rest?
